In essence, every break is a bone bruise but it doesn't sound as bad as fracture, etc. So there was not a misdiagnosis with Braham, the term is perfectly acceptable to use. The key is that it sounds like less of an issue to the layman. So we sat there hearing bone bruise thinking it wouldn't be a big deal, but the truth of the matter is there is a fracture, and he never recovered from it. It sounds like Dez doesn't want it to sound as bad as it is, so his guys have floated the bone bruise term to try and limit the concerns.
No. A bone bruise is different than a fracture. With a bone bruise there is bleeding within the bone which can only be detected with a MRI, but there is no fracture present. A bone bruise is caused by significant force, but not enough to cause a fracture. A fracture requires more force than a bone bruise. Calling a fracture a bone bruise is a deliberate misrepresentation of the injury which is exactly what Marvin Lewis did with Braham's injury.
If Dez has a tibial plateau fracture it is a more serious injury than a bone bruise and will require more time to heal even if they claim it is "hairline." Whomever is throwing that bone bruise bullshit out there is trying to pull a Marvin Lewis. They're trying to deliberately mislead people. Or they are misinformed. Possibly both.

The term bone bruise is a misnomer and makes the injury seem less serious than it is. A so-called bone bruise is actually a fracturing of the inner layer of bone.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but this doctor states that a bone bruise is a fracture...

Well it was actually 11 catches in 6 "starts" and only 3 of those starts came with Eifert out. He put up reasonable numbers in those games.Obviously possible he's not good, but I thought he showed promise. He's possibly the least talked about 3rd round pick we've had in a long time. Not much is said about him, good or bad.
Edit: I've looked around on rotoworld and some other sites and can't find anything about Kroft playing through any injury. It looks like CJ has just pushed him to the Bench. Maybe Kroft's decent production while Eifert was out was just a product of being familiar with McCarron while playing 2nd team. If so, that makes him a pretty disappointing 3rd rounder.
The training, nutrition, medicine, fitness, playbooks and rules evolve. The athlete does not.

I agree the term bone bruise down plays the significance of the injury. However, "fracturing" of some of the trabeculae is not the same as a fracture. If a bone bruise was a fracture, it would be called a fracture instead of a bone bruise. Most fractures can be detected with x-rays. Even some stress fractures can be detected with x-rays. You might need to order a CT or bone scan to confirm some fractures. X-rays, CTs, and bone scans cannot detect bone bruises. A bone bruise will look completely normal on on x-ray.

Quote:What is a bone bruise? It is not a simple contusion that is treated with ice and managed symptomatically. A deep bone bruise is essentially a microscopic fracture, much like a ligament sprain is a microscopic tear. I am not suggesting it is a true fracture that needs surgery or casting, but there is compromise to the integrity of the bone in order to get the swelling/fluid inside the bone.

I don't know, before this year, a lot of people just forgot Will Clarke existed, mostly because Hunt was drawing the attention. Shawn Williams was forgotten for 2 years and now I kind of wish he stayed forgotten, lol. Paul Dawson is actually from the same third round/same year as Kroft.
Also can never forget the true greats: Dontay Moch, Brandon Ghee, Chase Coffman, Andre Caldwell.
(Bengals have never had a ton of luck with 3rd rounders.)

A good idea in theory, but Eifert has shown the uncanny ability to suffer setbacks during the off-season and practice, too.
