Run the ball doesn't mean don't have any receivers in a pattern
#1
The Cowboys only loss this year was to the Giants.

The Giants had 28 pass attempts and 25 rushing attempts
The Redskins had 46 pass attempts and 17 rushing attempts (and lost, 27-23)
The Bears had 49 pass attempts and 15 rushing attempts (and lost 31-17)
The 49ers had 23 pass attempts and 29 rushing attempts (and lost 24-17)

Let's face it, the Bears and 49ers are horrible. The message I am trying to convey here is not necessarily that the Bengals must have an even number of pass and rush attempts, but they must stop telegraphing the run plays with the formations. Running the ball with only two receivers in a pattern plays right in to the hands of the defense. I would like to see more rushes out of the stacked formation where you take 3 or 4 defenders away from the LOS to one side of the field. The predictability of the Bengals rushing attack not only leads to little success but almost no big rushing plays.

I think burfict could teach this offense a lot on how the defense reads the play at LOS.

We had the same problem last year. Defenses seemed to know exactly when we were running the ball.

But, for me, it comes down to blocking fundamentals and being aware of what the defense is doing. Bodine seems so worried about getting beat at the start of the play that he's not seeing stunts developing a mere 2 yards away. Hence, we'll see a lot of 4 and 5 man stunts.

When you aren't picking up stunts or even seeing them develop your QB and RBs aren't going to have the time or room to do their thing, and we've seen that all year.

I keep hear about the Cowboys' offense, but if our OL can't win in the trenches it will put our defense in a bind that they might not be able to win.

I, as a fan, know when we're running the ball 99% of the time. Surely other teams know too. Our predictability is by far our biggest weakness on offense.

You don't know when we are running.  I challenge you to go into the gameday thread and prove it.

It can't be the formation because we do not always run or pass out of the same formation.

How can you tell with 99% accuracy?

We run better out of with 2 in the backfield. The problem is we are ineffective at passing out of the same personnel grouping. Increase your ability to pass the ball out of those groupings, and defenses can't just stack the box which will improve the running game.

We need to go full on West Coast and let Dalton open up the run with short passes allowing Gio to run out of the spread more. Also, Gio needs more tosses and pitches around the goal line, or just in general when Hill can't run it between the tackles. If we spread it out, we'd take a lot of pressure off our O line's lack of ability to create push. Once Gio runs around like a crazy man, cow bell it with Hill.

I don't think there's any doubt we have telegraphed rushing plays many times this season. Not only thru formation, but down and distance, game time, and just general tendency. Zampese has ran a very vanilla, predictable offense up to this point no doubt.

He's got to get more creative !

Bingo. I approve this message.

I agree that the Bengals seem to telegraph what they are doing simply by which back is in. If Gio is in, probably a pass. If Hill is in, probably a run. Kinda shitty but it's a fact and I guarantee you DCs key in on that. Even though hill only has mediocre hands we need to get him running routes from formations where Andy is under center to keep the D off balance.

I heard someone ask Fred's wife if she wakes up grumpy. She replied, yes but sometimes I let him sleep. Hilarious

99% may be exaggerating, but you absolutely can tell with personnel and formations the vast majority of the time.  I remember seeing a few run formations that had play-action screens out of them in the preseason.  They haven't run those plays that worked from the preseason?  What are they waiting for?

Yes, this is what I am hoping for...I don't see many RBs that could be successful running behind this line against stacked boxes.  Call it what you will, but I think the biggest obstacle is the formations and personnel are telegraphing the running plays.  They need to self scout the game film and look at the defense when they get in certain packages and determine the weak point in the coverage.

I bet a flea flicker would work, big time.

I challenenge you to come to the game day thread and prove you can predict the plays based only on the formation/personell.

It is not as simple as most of you claim.

That's just not the case.

Every team has a short yardage specialist, which is Hill.  Every team has a third down back, which is Gio.

Outside of run/pass probability due to down and distance (ex 3rd and less than 1 vs. 3rd and 12), nothing is telegraphed by who is in.  Hill gets 2 drives as the feature back, followed by 1 series for Gio with each spelling the other as needed during those drives.  If Jeremy, on his feature drive, breaks a big play and wants to be spelled, the next play is not a pass because Gio came into the game.
