Maybe move Dennard to safety and Williams to LB. This team has always loves pumped-up safeties playing linebacker. Mays, Lamur, Flowers, Thomas Howard (college safety). Can Dennard be that much worse at safety than Williams?

Another week, another excuse from Cage.
What's next, are you going to tell me that the only reason Nugent sucked at his kicks was because he ate popcorn before the game?

We actually should kick the tires on Mays. We have no linebackers who can cover and they're getting brutally exposed in the passing game. The sad part is, not only can't they cover, they can't tackle after the catch either

Some of it is on Guenther, for sure.
You can't really put on Guenther the fact that Burfict is fat, out of shape, and a shell of his former self, MJ forgot how to play the run, Dennard has been a bust, or Pac man has lost 2-1/2 steps. The loss of Reggie hurt us a lot worse than most of us thought, and they would have been better off spending that money they spent on Dansby on team building exercises.
How much talent do really think this D has? Atkins is a beast and Dunlap is good all around DE. Iloka was great, but looks lost without Nelson. Williams stinks, Jones is a has been, Kirk is average, Dennard is an injury prone bust. Burfict hasn't been elite since he got paid, Dansby is washed up, people have screamed for Maualuga and Peko's jobs for years, MJ is solid or garbage depending on how he feels that year.

A lot of the issues that Burfict had in college have come home to roost in the Pros. Aside from the character issues and personal fouls...he also came to the combine out of shape.
THAT was a big part of the reason he was undrafted.

Judging from the article about Marv and Tez's relationship, Marv lets him get away with this shit. If we ever get a new head coach, expect to see Tez reduced to nothing or traded.

This isn't practically his "first year" on special teams. You don't do shit like that.
He's a first round bust. Let's not invest more in him like we did Margus.
Unlike Margus, Dennard can't make plays on special teams.
It was just an inadvertent penalty.

So basically instead of blaming coaching for the entire defense playing like shit were gonna go with every player is fat, a bust or lost a step all at once?
When the coaches are giving 10 yard cushions we can't really blame the CBs for giving up 5-10 yard plays when its thrown that direction, so scared of giving up the big play we do this shit.
Call me crazy but Id rather give up the occasional big play and play tight coverage and atleast give our Dline a chance to get after the QB instead of just letting teams walk up and down the field by giving them 5-10 yard pass plays anytime they want them, shit the only time it seems we get a stop is if the opposing team makes a mistake.

So who do you think is responsible for the complete lack of discipline on this team ? Do you think Burfict should still be playing 25 lbs. overweight ? After stomping on Blounts ankle in NE game ? Zero accountability by coaches
Do you think Adam Jones would be getting away with totally stinking on 4 out of 5 plays and running around all over the field throwing temper tantrums costing his team ? Zero accountability by coaches
Who's responsible for keeping Maualuga and Peko on the team ? Why is Dennard still playing like a first game rookie ? Why is our defense totally out of sync way to often ? Why do we give 10 yard cushions on 3rd and 4 ? Horrible coaching
This team is completely undisciplined and has zero accountability ! There's no way in hell they're making the playoffs.
Other side of the ball but why do we continue running a very bad RT out there ? Why with all this fireposer are we way closer to the bottom of the league in 3rd down conversions ? We stink in the red zone ! Who's responsible ?
This coaching in it's entirety needs shown the door. Sad part is we all know that will never happen under Mike.
Waiting on Katie

We joke about failed position changes under Lewis, but I'm open to changes.....next season. It's too late this year, but Dennard's play has already lost him reps to Shaw and it will only get worse when Jackson comes back. He thrived off his biggest skill in college, being able to jam with his hands which is pretty useless downfield at safety. Williams has a similar style to another Williams (Roy), but Roy wouldn't be able to play as an in the box SS in today's game. You can debate a Mays type shift to NLB, but you worry if he would be able to take on an OL when blitzing or playing the occasional run. Smith is undersized but shows better instincts, I'd like to see more of him. It does seem like they're really trying to make the bigger assets in Williams (contract) and Ogbuehi (high pick) fit even if they're looking rough right now.

And he made a mistake, watch the replay. The ball is in flight and he is trying to look up to track the ball when the fair catch is signaled (which happened very early). Dennard runs full speed, having never seen the signal and then gets ready to hit the guy. Realizing he isn't moving, he tries to pull up thinking he missed the fair catch signal...which he had. This penalty is not what cost us the game. Missed kicks, turnovers, and piss poor tackling allowed us to end up in a tie not the one mistake by Dennard.

We have one of the worst run defenses in the league. Part of the issue is poor DL play, particularly Peko and Sims at NT and MJ at RDE. Part of it is abysmal LB play. Burfict is out of shape and had already lost a step after his microfracture surgery. Maualuga was mediocre, at best, and came in out of shape. Dansby got cut by the Browns, and has exhibited why he's not good enough to play for the Browns on a weekly basis. That means you have to put a S in the box to stop the run, and that means you can't run press man with a single high S with CB'S that lack make up speed.

It falls 100% on Marvin. He keeps gambling on these character problems that he's proven he can't fix and shown limited ability to control.
Burfict has gotten content and lazy, and we've seen that attitude infect other defensive players. The fact that he's a captain is a pathetic joke. Marvin, the rest of the coaching staff, Jones, and Burfict need jettisoned this offseason. It's time for a new philosophy.

Watch the play. He looked for the ball while the guy did the fair catch. So quit being stupid and watch football.
Second off, no reason to get rid of Dennard. He is a better outside CB than a slot/nickel. They've only used him in nickel situationsand that's not his strength.
Adam Jones has regressed this season and we may finally be seeing the end of him. Kirkpatrick has done well but he may go elsewhere for more money.
That leaves us with Brown, Lewis-Harris, WJIII, and Russell for next year if you get rid of Dennard. Just stop.
Cornerback is the hardest transition to make in the NFL. People only get better with reps. So far, Dennard has gotten reps this year at nickel CB. But even before this year, Dennard had been playing well.
I think the biggest issue has been our position coach changes. Every defensive back (besides Kirkpatrick and Shaw) has taken steps back. Pacman, Iloka, Williams, Dennard. Just like with LBs, every LB has taken a step back, Burfict included.
There is zero reason to cut Dennard over a penalty. You weren't clamoring for Kirkpatrick over any of his penalties. Nor Adam Jones or Burfict after the playoffs. Heck, even Whitworth has had penalties called on him. Since, you know, there's NO excuse for any veteran to have penalties.
I get it, you troll, it's fun. But please, try a little harder next time and think things through before you type.

So he looked up and saw the fair catch....and still hit him. Kay. Not sure how that helps your case. Dennard has had over 3 years; two of which were with arguably one of the better secondary coaches in the NFL. Dennard has already lost his starting position to Josh Shaw. Our secondary wouldn't be hurting if he we lose him, clearly. I've also been a huge critic of Kirkpatrick because he hasn't provided the value that his draft pick implies. I get it, you're incapable of thinking about different ideas, so you handwave them as troll. Please though, try to think a little harder before you handwave something you're not very informed on.

He's playing like shit. 78 year old Dansby is leading the team in tackles...and he's hot garbage too.

There were actually reports after last year's debacle of players complaining about exactly that. Lewis doesn't hold these players accountable.
