Until elimination occurs, THIS is ALWAYS the hope, but not the expectation TM.

Here's the catch.  Not sure how long these boards have been here, but let's go hypothetical and say they were around in the 90s and beyond.

If someone had posted, after the 90s and particularly after the 2-14, 2002 season, a similar post, saying What if the Bengals make the playoffs 7 times in the next 13 years, the replies would have been very similar if not worse.

In 1981 the Bengals were coming off a 6 win season. Our head coach had a 24-33 career record and had never made the playoffs.

In 1988 the Bengals were coming off a 4 win season. Our head coach had a 29-34 career record and had never made the playoffs.

Super Bowl talk got a lot of laughs going into those seasons.

Compare the Cowboys, Falcons, Packers, Dolphins from last year to this year.

NFL has high turnover. Thats just how it works. Its so rare that a team and franchise can maintain continued success over a long period of time.

You leave out some key points

Forrest Greg was in his 2nd season as the Bengals HC in 1981, not really all that close to 15.

Sam Wyche was in his 5th season as HC and went 10-6 in 1986. The 1987 season was only 15 games and 4 of those 15 were played with the replacement players. Not really all that close to being his 15th season either.

Marvin on the other hand has had several good teams and made it to the playoffs 7 X and can't get it done.

Chances the 15th time is a charm ? .0000000000001 %

We're not winning a superbowl next year or for the forseeable future. We still have Marvin "*****" Lewis at HC, we are talking with Peko's agent about an extension, Pacman hasn't been cut, Mauluaga still hasn't been cut, we're probably going to lose 2 of either Zeitler, Whit, or Kirkpatrick, we still have Zampese at OC, Bodine will still be our starting C, MJ will be our starting RDE, we won't promote Dawson or Roach at LB, we'll still ineffectively use Derron Smith and Josh Shaw, Hill will still be our starting rb even though he was outplayed towards the end of the season when Rex finally got a chance, we won't bring in any good free agents, we'll continue to bring back scrubs like Gilberry, Thompson, Hunt, and Sims and last but not least we still have stupid Mike Brown as owner.

I'll play along since no one else will....if the Bengals won the super bowl it would make the last 15 years of the Marvin Lewis tenure 100% worth it imo. All would be forgiven and he would go down as the best thing to ever happen to this franchise

But yeah ain't happening
