Bengals Next HC: Bill Cowher?
#21
A guy like Richmond Webb would have done wonders for this team this year.....

Whoever it is, I hope like hell that they value the trenches. Specifically, the offensive line. Not only should they value the oline, they should know what talent looks like and not continuously and stubbornly try to jam square pegs into round holes.

Obviously, I'm talking about someone who is the polar opposite of Paul Alexander.

Rumor is Texas A&M is already after him. He responds by saying he and his family are happy at Penn State and aren't going anywhere. That's coach-speak meaning "if an opportunity comes along that greatly furthers my career, I'm outta here."

If Hue gets fired I could see Lazor getting promoted with Hue back as our OC and Marvin going to the Browns.

If Hue doesn't get fired I see Guenther at HC, Lazor OC, and we'll need a new DC.

Or it could all just stay the same.

Edit:
Of coarse it could also be Hue HC and the rest stays the same.

It is what it is. We know how this game works.

Brown would never let go of that much money. I not for sure I am just guessing here but I am willing to bet the even though Marv is I believe is 2nd in tenure for current nfl coaches. I will bet he is in the bottom 10 on Pay. We will only get lucky with a new coach. It will be one who want to get a foot in the nfl head coaching Looking to move on.

alright I'm gonna throw this out there......Bo Pelini.

Stupidest thing I've ever seen is Nebraska firing him. He was winning 10 games in frickin Lincoln. Heard that town isn't real impressive to recruits and not a ton of local talent like Ohio, Cali, Texas, FL.

You might say he is 3-4 this year at YSU....but two OT losses to Pitt and NDSU is not too bad. The other losses were by a single score too.

He is firey, takes 0 shit, and ain't skeeeered of nobody. Could be a pretty good fit

No on Cower.

Do not see any way he would except a job with Bengals anyway.

Job security.

When he hires someone, he keeps them until they absolutely suck up the joint.  A lot can be said for that.  And don't act like this team hasn't had its share of talent.  The 2005 team and the  playoff run show that you can win here, you just need the right guy to get them over the hump.

I'm torn as to who I think it will be, but I also think that the coordinators will be the biggest hires.  Hopefully we can keep Guenther and bring in a fresh mind to work with the offense.

The Bengals will hire a coach who comes in and works under their management structure. They're going to have to want to scout. They're going to have to be content with not spending heavily in free agency. They're going to have to be ok with letting guys leave and getting Comp Picks.

In 2003 Couglin didn't come here because they didn't want to bring in a GM and hire more scouts. He didn't think he could win here.

re: Your 2005 team shows you can win in the playoffs - WOW! We can win in the playoffs! Some 23+ different teams have appeared in a Super Bowl since we last won a playoff game. Most teams have 5+ wins over that span.

It's not some big achievement.

He's got a fiery demeanor (for which most of us have been clamoring for awhile).
He's willing to call out players for mistakes before they've even left the field.
He coaches to win in every game (none of this, we've got a lead
He's got a proven track record of regular season wins, playoff wins, Super Bowl win.

I believe he'd be both able to work with Brown while also being able to, well, to bully Brown into getting the players he wants.

Agree? Disagree? Who would you think would be the best choice to follow Lewis (not the most realistic, the best) as HC?

Pass. The Bengals don't need another guy with such close ties to Pitt, which would ensure another 10-40 record against the steelers over the next couple decades.

Our best chances of beating the Steelers is Roethlisberger retiring. My guess is they sign a QB like Cousins when that happens though.

If we're considering a new HC, whoever it is? Make sure of the following:
1. They are on their fourth marriage.
2. They know how to tell time.
3. They only have 1 hand.
4. They only have liability insurance.
5. They are currently prescribed/taking Cialis.

Why? We need an attitude of , either put out or I will find a beotch that will. Someone who can manage a clock. Someone who will not stand on the sidelines and clap. Someone who is willing to take risks while also having the ability to "get it up" on Sundays and be a man instead of a giggly little school girl.

That was a big signing for the Bengals back then. He actually played pretty well for the Bengals for two years. His fellow ex-Dolphin Louis Oliver also signed as a free-agent. Shocking to get both of them since the Bengals were at the height of their ineptitude with free-agency.

So basically, we're going to need to look at college coaches.

I don't see any veteran coach coming here as they would most likely want more control than MB would want to relinquish. And certainly no retired coach (Cowher, Gruden, etc) would want to go back to the 18 hour day, sleeping in his office, coddling spoiled players, always second guessed and criticized at every turn, lifestyle. They've been there, done that and now are getting paid more to sleep in and wear custom fitted suits.

I predict the next coach, if not from within, will be an up and comer coordinator....proven enough to deserve a head coach's shot, but young and anxious enough to put up with MB's handcuffs. The only other scenerio I see is a former head coach that s now a coordinator wanting to redeem himself as a head coach. Plenty out there. I still believe, for some strange reason, that Marv will be made the GM.

See, I don't get this. Brown has given Merv about as complete control over the roster as any coach could ask for. Yeah, Lewis may not have the authority to go sign free agents, but I'm sure if there was a free agent he wanted, Brown would try to get him (without paying too much of course). I don't think it's the control that's the issue that prevents veteran coaches, I think it's the things The Pistons keeps bringing up (i.e. scouting, etc.)

Dude went to bowl games at Vandy.  V-A-N-D-Y.  If ANYONE could make chicken salad out of chicken shit, it's James Franklin.  Hence, he'd probably be a good fit here.
