Bengals Number 1 Seed?
#61
(12-06-2015, 10:16 PM)Sovereign Nation Wrote: If the Bengals and Pats both win out, then the Bengals will be the 1 seed.

Why?

Patriots lost to the Broncos.

If the Bengals win out, then they would have beaten the Broncos as well.

So...

Based off of head to head, the Bengals would be 1st seed.

Wrong.  If the Bengals and Pats both win out they will finish ahead of Denver who will have lost to the Bengals.  In a two way tie between the Bengals and Pats head-to-head doesn't apply.  Denver would not be involved in the tie-breaker because they wouldn't be tied with the Bengals and Pats.

Exactly why us Bengals fans want them the hell outta of there......oh and you know, they assassinate knees, rape woman, wave piss yellow maxi pads around in the air, and have the highest percentage of bandwagoners that have never even been to the team's city or state, etc..........

Wrong.  Us and NE winning out makes a 2 team tie broken by these rules:

Two Clubs

  1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  4. Strength of victory.
  5. Strength of schedule.
  6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best net points in conference games.
  9. Best net points in all games.
  10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  11. Coin toss.

ESPN's Playoff Machine has the Patriots Number 1 if both the Patriots and Bengals win out so we need the Patriots to lose one more.

And even if Denver were in there, you have to sweep the other two for it to be used in the tiebreaker.  IE, a Denver sweep would give them the tie breaker.  Splitting with both opponents means it goes to the next tie breaker.

I found a scenario that gives it to us, but it involves way too many unlikely things that have to happen every week, including (but not limited to) Pittsburgh losing to Baltimore or Cleveland.  Basically every team NE has beaten that we have not faced have to lose out, and the teams we've beaten that they have not faced need to win out.  And then Pittsburgh has to drop one to either Baltimore or Cleveland.

All because of that Texans game, lol.

The Patriots could lose to the Texans(No chance) and/or the Jets(Better chance to win than the Texans but still low probability).

That doesn't make sense. If we have the seed right now and we win out how can we not still have the seed?

We lead NE in conference record 8-1 to 7-1.  Both teams win out, both are 11-1, it goes to the next tie-breaker.  Tie-breakers don't mean much 'till the season ends.

Hard to believe they wouldn't. That would include a win against a 10+ win Denver team. Later in the week they'll show the SOV percentage to see where everyone stands.

Tie-breakers and scenarios aside, did anyone really think we'd be talking about (and currently IN) the #1 seed in the AFC?

What a season thus far!

That game has no impact on the strength of schedule, which is why we are in this position.

Had we won, it wouldn't be an issue, but they are right now saying the same thing about Philly.  And in my eyes the Texans are a better team than Philly....

Still need them to lose unless somehow the right teams losing could give us the advantage in SOV.

The difference is the texans are an AFC team, the eagles are an NFC team. Conference record comes into play for tie breakers....as do common opponents.

A crappy eagles team just went into Foxborough and won, the bengals could win as well.
