Big Names on the Chopping Block
#1

There's no guarantee these guys get cut, but I'd venture to say that they are all available on the low low. Is there anyone on the list that you would like to see in stripes?

If Dennard is out for longer than the Bengals are letting on, Johnathan Banks would be a very solid add.

That's really the only one on that list that I think would be an upgrade over what we already have on the roster.

I'd be interested in seeing Mingo in a 4-3.

well Dennard is planning on being back for the opener.     But I think we could survive a game with Kirk Jones and shaw.  (we have before)

Banks or Mingo might be worth a look. Mingo has spent his whole career in a dumpster fire maybe once he leaves that hell hole and gets moved to a 4-3 the light bulb might come on.

Banks makes the most sense to fit out team needs, and could be relatively affordable. However, I know nothing of his abilities and the fact that the Bengals have Dennard and WJIII in the wings(and Shaw in the slot?) makes it less likely that would happen.

I don't know if Mingo would be a fit to our 4-3, as there is no way he could likely hold up against the run as an end.

That being said, I remember hearing that the Bengals had him as their #1 OVERALL RANKED PLAYER coming out in the draft his rookie year. And we all know how they love #1s...

Sorry, backed out quickly after clicking when seeing it was bleacher report. Hate that click bait site.

Will have to take everybodies word on this one.

Do think there will be some nice names out there released but it will be tough to crack our roster though.

I was personally waiting for the "what washed up DE will the Bengals sign?" thread, and this was the first thread that was close to that.

I think a dead guy could give Margus Hunt a run for his money right now, but you are right...there is such quality depth at virtually every other spot, it will be tough to crack.  I doubt they would even take a veteran C with Westerman on the squad.

I'd like to see us add a speed rusher for passing downs. We don't really have one on the roster right now and Mingo could do that. They said he gained 20 pounds this off season, but stayed quick.

I wasn't aware of the added 20 lbs...that means he already has completed the growth from a Bengal redshirt...I would sure take him over Hunt's slow ass. Offer him a two-year deal with lots of incentives.

Agree and would add that there is a chance at WR if Lafell looks not ready, and possibly TE.

But do not see a good enough TE being released.

Mingo putting on #20, would put him in the mid 240s, as I was reading that in January he was at 227.  No matter how fast and aggressive, I just don't believe that being South of #250 is quite enough ass to get the job done in a 4-3.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Could get behind your Volunteer becoming a Bengal and say his decline was do to injury.

But think he makes team still and does not get cut this year.

Not a big name, by any stretch, but George Selvie remains unsigned. He hasn't done much of anything, in terms of getting sacks, since putting up 7 in 2013, but he's still considered to be good vs. the run.

And, if Will Clarke is going to be our "rotational" guy with Michael Johnson, we're going to be in trouble. Clarke looks to be about as slow, lumbering, and play missing as they come. We are really going to be missing Wally Gillberry this season.

How much did Chris Carter weigh last year when we kept him as a pass rush specialist?

I also think he makes the Titans roster.  Before they traded Beckham-Green he was in trouble, but now I think he makes it.

Clarke has looked better, and at least he takes up space. lol

I think something that is highly overlooked this year is the health of MJ. MJ wasn't 100% himself last year, and so far, he has looked great. Really thinking MJ looks like he did a few years ago when he had close to double digit sacks and held the left side down all day.

I implore you to watch Clarke in the 1st half of the Detroit game.  The kicker for me, was when he dove inside of the OT, on an obvious stretch run...

Do we have room on the roster, for that type of niche player, in our 4-3?  With the injuries to Jackson and Billings, they are already having to keep two bodies that would otherwise, likely been cut.
