One year cooling off period so they can get their affairs in order. This is really nice to see all these Temporary Protected Status ending. Been since 1999. Time for them to go home.

Quote:Trump to end deportation protection for Liberians

By JILL COLVIN
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is ending a program that allows citizens of Liberia living in the U.S. to avoid deportation. But it's allowing a one-year "wind-down" period to ease their return.

Liberians have been eligible for Deferred Enforcement Departure since 1999. The program, which began under President Bill Clinton, and was extended during the Bush and Obama administrations, allows people from the country to live and work legally in the U.S. It's similar to another program called "Temporary Protected Status," which the Trump administration also has worked to scale back.

In a memorandum issued Tuesday, President Donald Trump said Liberia is "no longer experiencing armed conflict" and has made "significant progress in restoring stability and democratic governance."

"Liberia has also concluded reconstruction from prior conflicts, which has contributed significantly to an environment that is able to handle adequately the return of its nationals," he wrote.

Right now, 839 Liberian citizens have valid work status under the program, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

To provide an "orderly transition" and give Liberia's government time to "reintegrate" citizens who have to return, beneficiaries will be given a 12-month window during which they're still allowed to live in the U.S. and work.

The protections, which Trump had until March 30 to renew, will now expire March 31, 2019.

Libertarians should be as protected as members of the two major parties.

I agree. We need the Librarians to keep track of our books and stuff.

So Libationary behavior isn't protected anymore? Well damn, parties are going to be a lot less fun.

If they arrived here legally, I don't care if they get to stay. I mean it's 839 people.

I've been of the  opinion that if you arrive legally, then you should be allowed to continue to stay as long as you aren't a criminal.  Certainly you should have to re-apply every once in a while, but it should be pretty much automatic as long as you haven't gotten into trouble.

They were here on Temporary Protected Status. Not permanent protected status.

The reason was given because of a civil war. The war ended a while ago. No reason for the TPS now. It’s been continued because politicians do not want the bad headlines of ending the temporary status.

These are no brained moves.

I am for ending temporary protected status to the people who are no longer in danger back home.

This also makes it easier to provide for TPS for those who are currently in trouble. Like the Europe Jews for instance.

I'm just saying if they want to stay, and haven't had any major issues with the law, then I don't mind them staying.

I don’t mind them staying either. Just apply like every other legal immigrant.

What do Libations have to do with books? I thought we just drank them?

I get folks having great fun with words in this thread; however, the funniest part to me is how this relates to the whole reason for the creation of Liberia.
