Drafting a defensive end we didn't need
#1
Good thing we drafted Myles Murphy. See how many plays he is making, like 0

Sure would have been nice to have a damn Tight End that could catch the ball and get 2 feet in today.

Zac Taylor needs to sit down and stop calling plays. If I see another stupid short pass to the sidelines I am going to puke

Yeah. I think drafting any position that contributes helps us.

Our safeties are mediocre now. That makes the cbs look bad.

Meanwhile Zay Flowers looked dominant.

The defense issues are decidedly not the safeties. This was a DL sucking eggs hard in BOTH games. Run defense has killed us - we're on pace to be the worst run defense in NFL history. Last week it was the complete inability to deal the edges and this week it was similar with the addition of constantly breaking lane discipline. Getting gashed on Jet Sweep right ten or more times in one game is embarrassing - no adjustments Lou? Or leaving the middle of the field undefended over and over? This was basic incompetence on the defense.

There's a thread about needing to add pass rushers. There's also a thread about drafting a de we don't need.

Go figure.

To be fair, we didn’t need a non-pass rushing non-run stopping DE.

This is true - the Bengals already have a bunch of DEs providing this for them.

Murphy won’t make the roster his third year. He’s abominable.

He won’t deserve to make it but he will - just like Jackson Carman…

What you miss is if the safeties cover better, it give the DL more time to get there. Jackson had guys open quick. Hard to sack a qb like that.

It's a bad draft pick then. It felt like a reach at the time.

Agree we put zero pressure on QB. Need to blitz once in a while to keep them honest.

Not a fan of Scott or Battle {yet on Battle he might work out} we need to play Hill and Anderson. Tycen has range like Hill with 4.3 speed as well as being in the system for 2 years.

I think they didn't blitz because Lamar would run.

The Ravens did a great job playcalling. It kept us off balance.

Hard to get a good pass rush when you give up 178 yards rushing @ 4.8 ypc.

Safeties covering doesn't address the epically bad run defense, which is the main issue.

I kind of miss the 4-3 that would sure up the run defense as well as give teams a new look we have been playing the same defense so long other teams have us down pat. Give new looks mix it up we have had the same head coach OC and DC for 4 years teams are zeroing in on us.

We were bottom 5 in sacks last season.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Impossible with Trey Hendrickson at an end. People seem to remember the few games he dominates and forget the many games he disappears. At least Hubbard seems to play the run well for the most part.
