The people are just afraid of anything different and that they might be treated like they treat the "objects of their desire".

So we need a registry for every sexual interest?  The guy who lives on the corner has a foot fetish, so be aware during sandal season when you let you wives and daughters select their footwear. 

Are they asking for it?

Also him admitting that someone is sexually attracted to you is "scary" sounds like some predatory propaganda.
