Girl in Denmark to face charges...for using pepper spray on rapist

(01-29-2016, 04:32 PM)fredtoast Wrote: The question is "Why would anyone hand out fake pepper spray?".

To say the answer to this question is "Because real pepper spray is illegal" completely ignores the main question which is "Why hand it out at all?"  It is worthless as protection and could actually cause a woman to pass up other forms of real protection because she thought she was carrying real pepper spray.

It boggles my mind that you did not see the point of my question.

Even fake pepper spray can deter an attacker.

Just like an unloaded gun can do the same.

Not only that, but the force of the blast of watery solution as well as the chaos of an attack could make the assailant think they have just been sprayed.  This would lead to a precious opening and chance to escape.

But who would want the United States to be more like a country that has far fewer rapes and provides health care to all the rape victims? Rolleyes

Stop it Fred,
Definition by Country Varies
Willingness to report Rapes by Country varies

Hell we can't even agree on the definition within our own country, in 2010 FBI claims there was 85k rapes, while the CDC reported 1.3 million.

YES I STILL want to be more like Denmark because our rape rate is four times higher. AND we provide health care for all rape victims.

Seriously, Phil, what was your point here?

I find this funny.  If I don't like the system currently being ran by the US, because I feel it is too much like a socialist system, you are quick to point out that I could just leave the US and move to a 3rd world country.

Yet, here you have a 1st world country, that operates in a way that you want the US to emulate, yet the idea of leaving the US and moving to Denmark never seems to enter your mind.

While I don't like big government, the US as of now, is the best place for me to be.  It is good enough, and I don't feel the need to change it to be like any other 1st world country.  If anything I want it to turn back the dial a bit, when it was the greatest country on earth.

Again if Denmark is so appealing to you Fred, as an attorney, I can't imagine it being overly difficult for you to set up your affairs and move to Denmark.

So you're saying they only have a smaller percentage because they report it differently?

Denmark:

Ohio (not the whole United states):

United States:
https://www.google.com/#q=size+of+the+United+States

Population -
Denmark - 5.614 Million

Ohio - 11.59 Million

US - 318.9 Million

So if you account for size - Denmark doesn't look so good.

That's why you use rates, because it is a number of rapes/assaults per a number of the population. Usually 100k. The size of the population is not relevant when comparing rates.

I wonder if people from Denmark think our own laws on what weapons are legal are messed up whenever they hear about innocent people being killed here in 'Muhrica

Talk about polar opposites.

I bet all of Europe would like our gun laws at the moment.

She did break the law.

When I was hit by a garbage truck 10 years ago, I was laying in the hospital with a broken neck, broken pelvis, broken left hip, skull split open and when I woke up, I was handed a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt.

The accident wasn't my fault and the police officer even said that not wearing my seatbelt saved my life since the garbage truck pushed me over instead of crushing me. I still broke the law and received a ticket.

Wow.  But be grateful your eyes weren't burning and you weren't dripping snot from your nose.

At what point do you want me to post repeated articles where Europeans are clammoring for guns and buying shotguns until they are of stock.....

I would like to know how that equates to them wanting gun laws like ours. If they are purchasing them at such a high rate, it seems that their laws do not restrict their ownership as much as your statement would have us think.

I'm sure they would like to have more than the shotgun option.

What link? All you do is enlarge font and change the colors. Which pretty much ensures your post gets passed by.

You can't be so dumb as to not know those are links.

But at least you showed that you just ignore things.  That certainly isn't a surprise.

Ridiculously insane font enlargement.   Yes I do ignore that stuff.

When you have more freedom you have to be ready for some things to happen. A little gun violence isn't a big deal. Gun free zones are the issue here anyway.
