Glenn at odds with Bengals over concussion

I do think they're for the most part still playing...but they don't think they can win and don't believe in the HC.

Still very vague in facts

If he has traumatic brain injury, it can be visually analyzed by CT, MRI or PET, etc.

In absence of that confirmation, then we have a catch all phrase of concussion - which is patient reported; thus, cannot be confirmed by any lab, biomarker or imaging methods.

If you go to your primary care physician and complain of pain in your leg and there is no evidence of a fracture, peripheral artery disease or deep vein thrombosis, then it's your word that matters.

This is the case with this guy. He says he was concussed some time during the game. Reported it after the game apparently. No evidence of when it occurred.

I dialed into a WebEx held by an ex-Team Physician for an NFL Team in Northeast, who was presenting cases of TBI and CTE. Although this physician is pro-player safety (thus EX-Team Physician), there was no evidence provided that one can definitively rule out concussion.

So if you tell me you are concussed and complain of visual disturbances, vertigo, headaches, nausea, vomitting, etc., I have no way of ruling out concussion.

That is what NFL is truly fearing. How do you defend yourself against that?

I am a Bengal fan. This guy upsets me beyond words. If he is unhappy about his salary, position change, the OL coach, etc., make it known and hold out.

But pulling this garbage is ridiculous.

Then it would be a TBI - which can be determined by CT, MRI, SPECT, PET etc. and evidenced by hematoma, hemmorrhages or contusions. Furthermore; if it touches the lymphatic system, it can be fatal.

In absence of subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma or cortical contusions, then the diagnosis would be a concussion (general term) and dependent primarily on patient reported symptoms.

So again, it is a non-quantifiable condition which is based on patient reported symptomology. In this case no on-field record of the index event.

I fail to see the relevance of your comments.

Pretty much everything you wrote is incorrect. First, a concussion is a mild TBI. Second, while most mild concussions resolve in a couple of weeks some can take 8 weeks or even longer to resolve. That doesn’t mean it is something other than a concussion. Protracted symptoms can result from Post Concussion Syndrome and the severity of the concussion doesn’t directly correlate to who will develop PCS. Meaning a person with a mild concussion may develop PCS while another with a severe concussion may not. Third, none of the imaging modalities you listed will show any abnormalities as a result of a concussion. Fourth, the relevance is that just because you didn’t see him get a concussion doesn’t mean he is lying or malingering because delayed onset of symptoms can and do occur.

False. A concussion is a type of TBI and it cannot be detected by imaging.

Migraine headaches can’t be detected by imaging, but that doesn’t mean people who report migraines are lying or malingering.

Glenn not happy how Bengals supposedly trying to rush him back from concussion and fining him $200k for conduct detrimental to the team. Paul Dehner Jr tweeted that Glenn isn't even at the facility today for practice.

If 2 damn months is rushing him back then he just needs to retire. Normally I would blame the franchise for this but this is a joke. Some people might not want to talk about this cause it’s a concussion, we have to be serious and sensitive. It’s an injury to the body that takes time to heal, if it takes him this long to recover from an injury that he will likely get again before the season is over, it’s time to hang it up. Starting to think he’s just lazy at this point. But then again the guys paying 200k not to play on this team so....just shows how bad a state this team is in.

The issue is that Glenn could not return to practice until he was cleared by both the team doctor AND an NFL appointed Independent Neurological Consultant.  Since he was cleared to practice, that means the independent specialist cleared him.  So, either at least two doctors have misdiagnosed his condition or he's been dragging things out.  We also have no idea how long he's been cleared and not fully participating or what comments he may have made to coaches and teammates.

You can’t progress through the return to play protocol if you’re still having symptoms. So you’re suggesting a guy who claims he is being rushed back to play too soon doesn’t have any symptoms?

Look at the video.

Glenn isn’t in pads. Which means what? It means he has been cleared for step 4 of the return to play protocol. He has to complete step 4 without symptoms before he can progress to step 5. Which means he hasn’t been cleared for full contact, yet. Which means he hasn’t been cleared to return to play by an independent neurologist.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face is the epitome of immaturity.  Turner is a POS and should have never been hired over Pollack who seemed willing to stay.  Cordy may find himself in significant legal jeopardy if it can be proven in court he was malingering, but I think he could fetch a 3rd round pick minimum in such a tackle needy league.  We should trade him then sue his ass for breach of contact if we can prove his malingering.  Turner should be given his walking papers and we should all pray that Bill Callahan agrees to be our o-line coach next season.  We should then draft a bookend tackle for Williams in the second to replace Hart after picking our franchise QB in the first.  Trading Dalton for a 2or 3 will also open up salary cap space for AJ and at least one premium LB.  Other picks attained will be BPA and build our depth, giving Zach his best chance of being successful especially when the injury madness ends.  Just my thoughts. Rant over.

......same reason they're making up shit that didn't happen.....some people just love to pile on. I'm about like Truck.... what's the use in even coming here anymore? We used to discuss facts in instances like this....not conjecture and outright LIES. It's getting to be too much.

Thing is, I don't even like Turner, but my God man, enough is enough.

There's nothing wrong with getting healthy (I wanted AJ on the IR so he'd come back 100%) but this was an issue in Buffalo, and now it's a huge issue here with Glenn.

The team needs to suspend him for the longest they can, give him the largest fine they can. Dude doesn't want to play football, so they should not want to pay him. It's clearly the only thing he cares about. See about getting some of that 8 weeks of paychecks back too, if he's malingering.

The only thing they CAN'T do is cut him or trade him. He'd get his money, and his wish to be gone, and this move by him would have paid off. That can't be allowed to happen.

You can't post shit like that here.... don't you know we got ourselves a full fledged witch Hunt going on in these parts? TFOH with that shit Leonard!

Dude, you just totally pulled that last sentence COMPLETELY out your ass. How in the flying **** do you know if they believe in the HC or not? This is getting worse than "unnamed sources" in Twitter universe. Rolleyes

As to quitting, then GTFOH. They're professionals. I wanted out of my last job for the past two years. We were on pace to break the company production record we set in 2016 when I left earlier this year. If these wimps can't handle a little adversity until their contract is up, then who TF needs their candy asses? I mean really.....SACK UP!

You know what Bobby Knight said about reporters' choice of profession after a bunch of assuming on their part at a press conference, right?

Seems we have a few wanna be sports reporters around here these days.....pretty soon the only posters left will be them and guys like 'I'm just here so I don't get fined'. LOL

You don't possess the background or capacity for me to have a discussion with you on this topic.

But as a matter of clarity:

To your analogy of a migraine - you should look at the placebo effect rates both in episodic and chronic migraine clinical trials.

Similar to this situation with Glenn, the true prevalence of migraines are far below the opioid abuse population who c/o migraines.

Once you do that, and truly comprehend what that means, then read my post again.

You are having a discussion with a person who has spent more time in migraine literature and treatment, than you have spent in school.

That a concussion is a general term applied to non imaging confirmed TBI, is correct. However, imaging confirms TBI, irrespective of whether baseline imaging is available.

Again, non-quantifiable condition that cannot be confirmed by lab or imaging data, which depends solely on patient described symptoms, can and has been abused.

As a word of advice, refrain from using "pretty much" in your argument. Makes you look like an amateur.
