If there is no one else on the road, why I am forced to drive 55? Car insurance is already forced on us all, so there is no need to have speed limits. Plus the police can increase patrols in their areas for actual crime.

I've worked too many wrecks caused by excessive speeds to be on board with this. But I'm one of those drivers that actually obeys the speed limit and keeps an appropriate distance between myself and the car in front of me. Honestly, that is what concerns me more than anything. People driving 80 mph with 1-2 car lengths between them and the car in front of them.

Heading to the Pittsburgh International Airport the speed limit suddenly drops from 55 to 40. Guess where the road pirates sit? It's a straight shot so doing 75 is no more dangerous than the arbitrarly chosen 55 mph limit.

I think 70 is a good spot to stick with.
The condition of some of the vehicles on the highways are horrible and likely wouldn't hold together very long, going a higher speed.
So, without extensive vehicle inspections, I don't think I could endorse a removal of limits.
I DO support looking into the speed traps that are established, where the speed is reduced by more than 10 mph by municipalities.

I just got back from a trip to Europe.

1) Yes, we can live without highway speed limits. In most European countries, driving rules are just 'guidelines' or 'hopes' anyway.

2) No, we would not want to see the massive body count that would result in us eventually emulating the Europeans. They have been doing it for years. We would be a mess.

I assume it was more like when the speed limit is 55 people want to drive 70 and when it is 65 people want to drive 80 and so on.

The driving culture there is so much different. We could not handle autobahn rules here.

Only if it were an older quote.
He has changed his ways (supposedly) and refuses to play any of his controversial songs.
I honestly don't know a lot about him.
I had only really been exposed to him, about 5 years ago, from my wife.
I never realized how many popular songs he wrote.

Only the greatest country and western song ever. ThumbsUp

But one of his worst songs (which if you've heard it, you know the one I'm talking about) almost seems like a parody.  Yeah, it's racist, but there's also no way a racist would ever be singing what that song is about.  I think it's hilarious and LMAO every time I hear it, and I suppose if he were a black comedian it might be ok but not an old white guy singing country.

I get the joke and realize it's not exactly making fun of ignorance or the stereotype....but man the first time you hear it is just so unexpected and so over the top I might think you're a racist if you DIDN'T laugh.
