REDS AUGUST GAME THREAD
#81
For the 4th in a row this season, Castellanos got hit by a pitch and Votto follows it with a homer. That is incredible! Has to be some kind of record.

Nice. And the Padres schedule is brutal down the stretch.

ESPN analyses the remaining schedule to calculate each teams chance of making the playoffs.  Padres and Reds have the exact same record (68-57) but the reds are given a 56.3% chance of making the playoffs while the Padres just have 35.8%.

Phillies trying to blow it again this time with a 7-1 lead and 2 outs in the 9th and SD has bases loaded. A double later and it was 7-4 with the tying run on deck in Tatis. Luckily the next guy struck out to end the game at 7-4. Reds in second WC spot alone.

Padres lost. Reds in sole possession of WC2.

Tatis is clearly NL MVP, but he has been injured a lot and moved to the outfield. If he can't stay healthy and the Reds make the playoffs Votto could be MVP. He is currently second to Tatis in HR and SLG% and is 5th in RBI and OPS.

Well this game turned brutal in more ways than one. First Lorenzen of all people most responsible for blowing a 4-1 lead which is currently 5-4 in the 8th. And now Antone fresh off the IL starts the 8th and 5 pitches in hurt himself and likely back on the IL.

Starting to wonder if I shouldn’t root for the reds to miss the playoffs just so we don’t have to watch this bullpen pitch in the postseason.

As expected Antone back on the 10 day IL with a forearm strain. Max Schrock called back up.

We can get through most of the postseason with a three man starting rotation.  That means we can move two pretty good pitchers from our rotation to the bullpen.  We will be a completely different team in postseason.

UGH. Now India leaves the game after getting hit on the hand by a pitch. He has been my favorite player to watch this season. Hope this isn’t too bad…

Edit: and he’s already back lol. Kid is crazy tough.

Welp so much for any chance to make a run at a division title.

Think the Reds got away with one on that out of basepath call to end the game even though it likely wouldn't have mattered. Anyway nice to avoid the sweep.

Getting near September. Reds are 12 games over .500 and Reds are The # 2 Wild Card Team as of today. Now, Padres, Cardinals and Phillies are not far behind The Reds with a full month to go.

If Reds hold on to Wild Card spot, they will play AT Dodgers or Giants in a One Game Wild Card Game.....If Reds Win, they will stay in California to play a series with Dodgers or Giants in the next day or 2. The Wild Card Winner plays the Best team in League, and that is winner of The West Division.

So it would be nice for Reds to clinch this early and save their best hottest pitcher for This Wild Card Game. They also need to have players Healthy. Also who matches up best against Dodgers OR who matches up best against Giants. Well, they need GM on that in September because if they beat one, they play the other the next day in October.

Anybody can win one game, and I have seen good teams like Yankees lose a one game Wild Card Game. Way back in 1978, I saw a very good Red Sox lose a One Game Play-Off to Yankees. Anybody Can Win One Game, so The Reds could win it if they play a good game. They would need their best Pitchers rested and ready to go. Hopefully pitch some non play-off roster dudes the last regular season games. Bench players to avoid injury. Going into play-offs, a day of for Stars would be a good thing.

Of course Reds have to hold on to their Wild Card spot. They can only get the Visiting Team Spot. They need to hold off Padres, Cardinals, Phillies in September trying to sneak in. REDS vs CARDINALS GAMES will indeed be PLAY-OFF GAMES...Those are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday Sept 1st and Friday, Saturday, Sunday Sept 12th when Bengals start season. Both Reds and Bengals Games that day are HUGE. Bengals start at 1. Reds start at 2. So I can watch all Bengals Game, and Reds game will still be around 6th inning or so to switch over to.

Reds can not catch Brewers, but they can beat them in Play-Offs....Starting Monday, a HUGE 3 game series with CARDINALS at REDS....with Reds at Cardinals 9 days later. ...REDS VS CARDINALS is about to HEAT UP as these games are for PLAY-OFFS. Some guy named Molina always helps Heat Things Up. Saying Molina to Reds Fans is like saying Steelers to Bengals Fans.
