Rookie Minicamp
#1
The on field action begins: https://twitter.com/Bengals/status/1392918267778551811

I'm itching for some fun info on Chase & intrigue about undrafted rookies that might wow the coaches.

What's everyone else interested in seeing from the minicamp?

I want to see Ossai out there as he might be the most talented player we drafted besides Chase IMO.

A TE from Arkansas has been invited: https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/bengals-bringing-in-tight-end-cj-o-grady-for-tryout

CJ O'Grady, the article describes him as having a troubled past and it seems he got booted from the team.

For sure, some of the draft gurus ripping on us for Carman also said the Bengals got a steal by taking Ossai.

His highlight reel is pretty fun to watch. Dude doesn’t go down easily. I hope he sneaks on the roster.

I remember the name when I watched Arkansas once and he was killin' it. Wouldn't mind an Irish O'Grady on the roster. Smirk

He is a load to bring down, but he's also just a plodder.
Dude looks kinda slow, even for a TE.
It's also worth noting that he's going to be 25 years old in September, so he's much older than a typical rookie.
I wouldn't be opposed to him making the team as TE3, but I doubt he'll ever become more than that.

21 is coming back into style as teams have spent a couple of years getting smaller at LB.

they finally announced the UDFA class....all names previously leaked with no new additions

P Drue Chrisman-The OSU
LB Darius Hodge-Marshall
WR Riley Lees-Northwestern
TE Pro Wells- TCU
CB Antonio Phillips- Ball State
RB Pookie Williams-Kansas

Right now that leaves them at 81 guys on the roster with up to 90 allowed at camp

Thad Moss or CJ O'Grady could be good FBs.
Both a bit shorter than typical TEs these days, but both have the weight that teams typically want in a FB.
Both can also catch well on short routes, which IMO is an underutilized part of the FB's game.

To me, best chance to make roster is Antonio Phillips with the last CB spot, and/or Pooka or Lees with the last WR spot. I know Pooka is technically listed as a RB, but he's way too light be a RB in NFL. He's likely going to be a slot receiver and return specialist who may get some occasional touches out of the backfield.

I would be shocked to see Wells beat out Moss for TE3.
Chrisman might be a good PS candidate until Huber is gone.
I doubt Darius Hodge makes the roster, as he's only been a pass rusher in college. May make the PS.

Can't just casually convert guys to FB successfully. Mentality is much more important than size/weight/hands when it comes to FB. Takes a certain type to be a good FB, hence why Orson Charles was never a good answer. Heck, that's even true for pass blocking RBs. Gio isn't a big dude, but he still stonewalled blitzers better than guys 25% bigger than him.

If Chrisman doesn't make the Bengals roster, he'll never sneak through on the PS.

He'll either be cut and then signed by another team because teams are always looking for special teams, or if he does sign to the PS then he'll be signed off the PS like other's we've put on the PS.

I think Chrisman is good enough to unseat Huber as the punter on this team.  Question is the coaches willing to make that move.

O'Grady looks like a fantastic sleeper TE find, but reading up on him he's a headcase. Kelce was known as a troublemaker at UC so it's worth a shot.
