Not really.  I was listening to the guys on NFL Radio talking arm length, just the other day.  It seems that the agreed upon "magic threshold" of arm length for an OT is 32.5", at 33.25" Sewell safely meets that threshold.  The key isn't just arm length, but his wingspan indicates that his frame is wide, meaning that it's tough for an edge rusher to see the QB when Sewell keeps his body in front of the defender.

Thank you, I never saw that site before.  

Still very good.  1.77 would have been 6th at the last combine. The fastest any other 330+ lineman managed was a 1.95

Very good. Since 2018 the only other Olineman 330+lbs  who managed under 8 seconds was Orlando Brown with a 7.87 at 345lns.  rest are all in the 8.1s. He's running with guys in the 299-306 range.

If you've never seen the site before (or their twitter: Mathbomb) here are Chase and Pitts' RAS scores as well. 10 is a perfect score.

Chase: 9.89 - RASRAS Information (relativeathleticscores.com)

Pitts: 9.72 - RASRAS Information (relativeathleticscores.com)

Their rankings go back to 1987. Athletically, Pitts ranks 27th out of 918 TE and Chase is 27th out of 2480 WR.

Yeah, while some are attempting to downplay Sewell's physical performance attributes, it's good to put it into relativity.  Sewell moves quite well for a big man.

There aren't a lot of 330 pound players who jumped 9'1" or better.

In fact, of the more than 20k players in my DB, that only describes 22 players, 15 of which are OT, including Penei Sewell.

Includes Andrew Whitworth (334 lbs, 904 broad) and Jason Peters (336 lbs, 907 broad).

So what are his numbers on lateral movement? THAT is critical.

The primary reason so many people wouldn't consider Slater an OT was because of his 33" arms.

Sewell has now measured in at 33 1/4" arms, so we should apply the same to Sewell and say his ability to stay at OT is questionable.

Honestly, that's really disappointing. I was hoping Sewell would secure his generational talent standpoint so that the Bengals would take him. Now I think it almost has to be Chase.

For both all players 330 lbs and all OT over 330, though?

It'd be about 88th percentile.

The same NFL Radio guys that were talking about arm length, were also talking about relativity of speed/agility measurements.  They said it's really only to confirm that what you saw on the tape was not a fluke, and that the athlete actually has the demonstrable physical abilities to replicate it as a pro.

Yup and clearly Sewell does. He is going to be a monster in the NFL for about 10 years. Hopefully it is here.
