Storming Of The Capitol Building

I was having an interesting thought at the end of this clip. Think back to four years ago, when those on the left side of the aisle were being mocked, and were being told we were trying to delegitimize the president even though that wasn't what any of us were saying. None of us disputed the outcomes of the election (that I am aware of) but yet we were told we were, were mocked for it, and told to "get over it."

Now, we have a not-insignificant portion of the country that is doing that very thing, and they are the ones that were mocking the left four years ago! It's just baffling how much irony exists in this whole situation.

Careful...you're gonna get a "both side" argument!  Ninja

But no, seriously, the same people in my newsfeed that cried about "everyone gets a trophy", "learn to lose", etc are currently still claiming things need "investigated" or that Trump really didn't lose.

It's is sad.

Apparently, security threats have caused the Capitol Police to request the continued presence of the ARNG. That is concerning.

I was getting ready to compare this to Greene's random calls for a full vote just to disrupt the House that day.  Sane people have to react and do the right thing while the crazy people keep on keeping on.

The hypocrisy of that goes beyond Trump.  Our society sucks because everyone feels like a winner despite not winning anything.  By the way, I fell out of a vagina in the USA and that makes me #1.

A couple (very few) of my more conservative FB friends are giddy that Washington was prepared for another attack that didn't happen.  See, that *PROVES* that "they" are using the media and misinformation about the right!

I'm happy that the FBI and others are keeping an ear to the ground and are prepared.  I'm also happy it seem to just be talk from the usually underground talkers who I don't think have the energy to actually do anything.

I believe the threats are real and it is best to be prepared...not afraid...just in case.

Anyway, one of their friends commented in a way that I think kind of undermines what they are saying:

Responses by people like "J" are the reason sane people are preparing.

Folks like Trump take "winning" to a whole new level.  The type of person who can't ever admit defeat. Born on third and thinks he hit a triple.  That kind of thinking.

And his more fervent followers believe that they too will be constant winners if they can only touch the hem of his garment.

So one of the people literally leading the mob during the insurrection was a Trump appointee.

It does warm my cynical heart to see so many of Trump's henchmen realize they were expendable. At least we are still civilized enough that they weren't convinced to suicide bombers...yet?

So apparently this guy was a Trump appointee to the State Department.

Also, apparently, the Trump Admin was really bad at vetting their appointees.  Well, unless the vetting was "Are you 100% loyal to Trump and will believe everything he says?"

From the Administration that pushed for EXTREME VETTING of immigrants. I don't have a problem with that other than it was obviously used to discriminate.

They must be hiding behind the Antifa?

Lots of "rule of law" and "tough on crime" folks want to just look past the events of January 6th and we know why: They "know" that when they attack protest that white people and conservatives aren't nearly as bad as BLM and Antifa.  No need for even an investigation. Whatever

Hey remember when Tucker couldn't even find a q-anon member?

Well he must have because now he has thoughts on their gentle nature.

Quote:Fox News host Tucker Carlson calls QAnon followers 'gentle' patriots

Carlson says conspiracy theory believers – many of whom took part in Capitol attack – are ‘gentle people waving American flags’

Followers of the QAnon conspiracy theory are “gentle people waving American flags”, Fox News host Tucker Carlson claimed on Friday night – two months since many joined a mob that stormed the US Capitol seeking to overturn Donald Trump’s election defeat, a riot in which five people died.

“Do you ever notice,” Carlson asked his primetime audience
, “how all the scary internet conspiracy theorists – the radical QAnon people – when you actually see them on camera or in jail cells, as a lot of them now are, are maybe kind of confused with the wrong ideas, but they’re all kind of gentle people now waving American flags? They like this country.”

Five people died as a direct result of the Capitol attack, one a police officer struck with a fire extinguisher, one a Trump supporter shot by law enforcement. The Trump supporter, Ashli Babbitt, was reported to have followed internet conspiracy theories including QAnon.
Another rioter, Roseanne Boyland, was trampled by the mob while holding a Gadsden flag, a revolutionary era symbol of a snake and the legend “Don’t tread on me”. A friend said she had “watched her decline and go on these rabbit trails … this all really ****** with her head – the QAnon conspiracy theories, the elections, the unrest, the violence”.

The QAnon conspiracy theory holds that Trump is America’s true leader against a cabal of satanic liberal child-killers and paedophiles. He is not. No such cabal exists. Nonetheless, the theory has proliferated – even finding a sympathiser in Congress, the Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene.

On 6 January, before the Capitol riot, Trump told supporters to “fight like hell” to overturn the election, which he claims was the result of massive electoral fraud, a lie repeatedly thrown out of court. He escaped conviction in an impeachment trial, on a charge of inciting the riot. But federal authorities have made more than 300 arrests.

Carlson spoke a day after the US Capitol was closed, as law enforcement agencies warned of a threat from rightwing groups around the QAnon theory that Trump would return to power on 4 March. He did not. No attack materialised.

Carlson mocked reactions by Democrats and media coverage of the closure, adding familiar racially loaded provocation.

“By the time night fell and the city remained quiet,” he said, “except, of course, in the poor neighbourhoods where people are still shooting one another in ever-growing numbers and no one is noticing, MSNBC had decided that, in fact, they had saved the day.”

Carlson also said QAnon followers were “not torching Wendy’s. They’re not looting retail stores. They’re not shooting cops. No, that’s not them, it’s the other people doing that.”

Last summer, protests against police brutality and institutional racism sometimes produced civil unrest. A Wendy’s fast food restaurant burned in Atlanta; looting occurred in some cities. Police officers have been shot and sometimes killed amid tension and protest over police killings mostly of African American men.

The protests of 2020, which spread internationally after officers in Minneapolis killed an African American man, George Floyd, were multi-racial. Carlson’s other racially loaded comments on his prime time show include that immigration makes the US “dirtier”, a remark which prompted some advertisers to withdraw.

In some quarters, the Fox News host is seen as a contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, if Trump does not run again. Carlson’s comments about QAnon believers echoed remarks by Trump, who last August told reporters: “I’ve heard these are people that love our country. So I don’t know really anything about it other than they do supposedly like me.”

At last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference in Florida, Carlson scored 3% in a straw poll regarding the next presidential pick – way behind Trump but ahead of Mike Pence, the former vice-president some in the Capitol mob said they wanted to hang. QAnon followers promise that fate for many of Trump’s opponents.

And a quick racist jab?  Tucker is on FIRE!  And still a dbag.

It is weird to me how emboldened the gqp has been to say the quiet part out loud AFTER Trump left office.

I am NOT surprised that so many of them continue to go in public still defend Trump and his supporters who raided the building and killed an officer.

Didn't it come out that the officer didn't die by the people who raided the building. I know for sure they said the fire extinguisher thing was wrong.

They are still connecting his death with the attempted insurrection. He died of a stroke/blood clot that is suspected to be a result of chemical irritants he was exposed to at the Capitol.

Not wrong, still being questioned if he was struck or not.  And still dead because of the people who raided the capitol because they don't understand math as well as they believe conspiracies.

Everything that I read has been what Belsnickle just wrote. That he died due to the use of chemical irritants from what other police used. Also I think it's pretty a big overreaction to call it an insurrection. Just the same as everyone saying that most of the protests were riots last year.

Okay, people at a protest turned violent (same people, they were at the speech) by forcing their way into a building and their actions contributed to the death of an officer.

Somehow not better to me but whatever makes people enjoy their narrative.
