The Bengals Don't Invest All Their Resources Into Winning. The Steelers Do.
#1
It's as simple as that. As fans, we look for conspiracies or luck as the reason. They just have a better roster and better management/coaching. They're superior to us.

It's been 26+ years since we've won a playoff game. We're not well managed. Yet EVERY offseason we expect that this will be our year. In our 50 years as a franchise, we've had 3 seasons where we've won playoff games and 5 total playoff wins.

The Steelers have a smart GM. They have a large scouting staff. They have good ownership. They hold their coaches accountable for performance.

With less cap space than the Bengals, the Steelers:
-Extended Brown
-Extended Tuitt
-Extended Villanueva
-Re-signed DeCastro (Yes a GUARD for $10 million a year who they ran behind a lot today)
-They franchise tagged Bell
-They signed Haden

The Bengals
-Let Whitworth walk
-Let Zeitler walk without an offer. (They supposedly offered him $5.5 million to do an extension at some point which is an extreme lowball.)
-Signed Minter to a 1 year deal
-Extended Burfict
-Signed a RT in Andre Smith to play Guard. We had about $21 million in cap space at this point.

Which team is more committed to winning?

The teams are totally ran different. Steelers management and fans expect a Super Bowl EVERY YEAR. Anything less is a disappointment.

Do you think a coach would stay coaching the Steelers if he was 0-7 in the playoffs there?

Would any GM who hasn't won a playoff game in 26+ years still have a job?

Every owner says they want to win a Super Bowl...but they vary in the degree in which they align their resources with that goal. The Bengals dip their toe in the water.

Dear Mike Brown

8 and under football is won with an efficient oline.  Crazy as this sounds, this also works in the NFL game.  When you settle for a QB that cannot take over a game and you put all your hope in said QB you better give that QB a line to lean on.  ****** fans knew this was a problem prior to this season and yet executives that get compensated well for their services made the decision to run with current stock at both tackle positions.  What the **** is wrong with your family?  I mean shit, a bunch of inbreeds could have accidentally won a playoff game by now...Are you tormenting those who follow your family experiment intentionally with a coach who can't manage timeouts and a front office of cousins/kids that can't figure out personnel and salary cap rules?  If so we'll played Mike Brown, you are truly a *****....

The Bengals don't value Guard and Center and won't invest in it financially.

Meanwhile...some NFL teams actually value Guard more than Tackle as Guards are becoming that important.

Nothing is gonna change. Why bother?
I lived through the 90's. I don't think the ineptitude is on the level, but I'm just as frustrated nonetheless.
I can't take watching this team lose in the exact same way every single week.
Its an organization that has no idea what momentum is or how it plays into a game.
The end of the first half and the beginning of the second half MATTERS.
The game was over during that stretch. The INT's and other chicanery were just the icing on the cake.
“It’s easy for everybody to say to make that change," Lewis said last week. "But ... when that change doesn’t work out, what do you do?"

Marvin Lewis on why he refused to make a change at the kicker position.

Honestly...the Bengals say they want to win a Super Bowl...but they seem to value having a nice working environment with Coaches that won't rock the boat too much...and then make profit at the end of the year.

There are some coaches they could hire that would complain about how some things are done here.

Which is why Coughlin wasn't hired here. The article I read said there were 'unresolved Personnel Department issues'. ie Coughlin wanted to hire a GM or be the GM.

All that changed was the Bengals had 2 Great drafts in a row: Dalton/Green/Boling and Atkins/Dunlap. That gave fans hope that the Bengals finally figured things out.

I honestly don't know that any coach can succeed here.

When will AJ Green threaten to retire if he isn't traded? He's disgusted.
This post brought to you by the Cincinnati Bengals. Proud leaders in squandering opportunity, since 1969.

If you want to be a life-long bengal fan, you have to just wait and see what happens when Mike Brown either dies or releases ownership of the franchise to see if this team will actually make real changes.

Atkins and Dunlap are free agents after next year. When they leave to go play for a winner that will begin our descent into perennial 4-12.

Yeah...the Dalton/Green/Bodine and Atkins/Dunlap drafts may be the worst things to happen to this franchise as it made them think that their plan was successful.

It basically took drafting 2 HOF players and 2 other Pro Bowl players in back to back drafts to make this team become above average.

The only way to fight this is with a cold dose of reality.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of Homers out there that see a win against the Browns as evidence that we've turned the ship around.

Dalton is a good qb. It ain't his fault. Rogers, Rothlisburger, or Brady couldn't survive with this crappy O- line.

It's more than just the offensive line. It goes to the organizational level. What type of management would allow their best 2 lineman leave and not replace them?

IF Tom Brady was drafted by the Bengals...he'd probably be out of the league in 3-4 years.

And once all those players signed their second contracts the depth has slowly been depleted as the FO has made too many suspect decisions.

Zeitler + Brandon Thompson instead of DeCastro and Bernard instead of Bell also impacted the trajectory of both teams.

There's plenty of extremists on both sides of the aisle.  For every person that thought we were playoff bound after the Browns and Bills wins, there's alarmists who think the sky is falling because we got beat by a team that has totally owned us for 25+ years.

I would think that means the sky has already fallen...
