Yes. Purdy is good but Shanahan will have most QB’s ready to roll.

The bigger news is that Trent Williams isn’t practicing.

No Purdy, no Trent, and no Deebo? Screams a recipe for a CMC 30+ carry day, ushering in a new era of ground and pound!

The bigger question and loss for them is Trent Williams. If he doesn't play it's a much bigger deal than Purdy not playing. Our DL should EAT without big Trent.

That doesn't mean anything.  We've played many a backups over the years and resurrected a lot of careers.

Let's not forget that the Bengals have a rich and storied history of allowing rookie and backup QBs to play like legends of the game against them.

For the most part. Mike White did torch us a couple years ago though.

Usually this happens with backups where there is little to no tape on them. There is plenty of tape on Darnold. And he has a reputation for turnovers.

People all have bad memories (see above).

As I JUST wrote on Twitter, everyone remembers TJ Yates, but no one remembers Brock Berlin, Jimmy Clausen, Blaine Gabbert, Kellen Clemens and John Skelton.

I can't find my post I did 2 years ago, but I debunked this.

And no, Nick Mullens has never faced us, let alone, "torched," us.

Put heavy focus on the RB(s) and force Darnold to make throws to Kittle and Aiyuk.

Yep, simple plan on Defense. Plenty of tape on Darnold as well, shouldn't surprise us as easily as some backup QB without
any NFL film. Not a runner either and he likes to throw interceptions a lot unlike the dude we just picked off a few times in
Geno Smith who hardly ever throws interceptions.

So 9 games (Andy doesn't count) out of what, 25? 30? That we've faced backups?

Again, we have (if we're going strictly backups):

2023: Dobbs
2022: Huntley, Anthony Brown, Flacco, PJ Walker and Hayseed in the same game
2021: Drew Lock, Josh Johnson
2020: Minshew
2019: No One
2018: No One
2017: Osweiler
2016: Kevin Hogan/Cody Kessler
2015: EJ Manuel, Nick Foles, Austin Davis, Gabbert
2014: Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Manziel
2013: Thad Lewis, Jason Campbell, Matt Cassell
2012: Brady Quinn, Foles, Tyrod Taylor
2011: Kellen Clemens, John Skelton
2010: Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy
2009: Brady Quinn
2008: Ken Dorsey
2007: Brock Berlin, Cleo Lemon

So yeah, we have done SIGNIFICANTLY better against backups than anyone remembers, especially since Zac has been coach.

The notion that we struggle against backups is all fallacy.

Well there is the backup quality QB’s / Placeholders that got us. Mitch T. comes to mind. But it isn’t only about quarterbacks. That’s what you are missing. It’s backup LT’s and guards, cbs …..
