I don't know much about farming, but I'm not sure a plutocrat like Trump is the guy to pull for if you are against the notion of huge corporations running the smaller guys out of business.

He has helped a ton of the smaller farmers. Something I remember Democrats groaning about when he was giving farmers bailout money.

Well bailouts are socialist BS, so everyone should groan.

I don't know what you mean.

Why should kids from wealthy families who get multi million dollar farms for free not have to pay taxes, but kids from poor families who have to work out their own money to buy a farm have to pay taxes on that?

Why should children of millionaires get a benefit that children of poor people never do?

The reason taxpayers (not Trump) had to give an extra $16 billion in funds to farmers in 2019 was due to the damage done by Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods.

At what point can we go after the campaign for these frivolous lawsuits and the taxpayer money they waste?

Every 2 to 6 years, depending.

Because they're not children of millionaires. You're ignoring that a lot of farmers are going bankrupt and losing their family owned land because they can't turn that big of a profit on it. Because the bank is raising the price of that land when the income from it isn't going up proportionally. It would be different if it was a million dollar business, because that's actually making lots of money.

The biggest mistake you make is that you equate what the BANK says the land is worth to what the family actually has. You think because the land is worth something they automatically have millions of dollars. I would agree if you went by what the profit is from the farm and not what the bank says the farm is worth. That's why I hear "Land rich, and cash poor" all of the time from my farmer friends.

Why should people pay taxes multiple times on their own land? Most of these people aren't rich, and they work extremely hard. There's no reason to hamstring farmers. Maybe if it was a Wall street businessmen I could see your point, but they're FARMERS. American farmers feed America and much of the world. Farmers make MUCH less than what their land is worth a lot of the time. You're just very ignorant on this topic, and this is the exact reason why we need EC. Someone like you who thinks they know the answer of "millionaire" farmers is just pay the taxes to keep their already paid land (and the taxes they already paid). Then in 10-15 years from now you're going to wonder why there's only 2000 farms in America compared to when we had millions.

Yes they are.  If you own $5 million plus in farm land you are a multimillionaire not matter what your income is.

That is like saying a person who owns a $5 million dollar home but choses to make pottery and only earns $100 a week.  Is he no longer a millionaire just because he has no income?

(11-06-2020, 06:52 PM)Brownshoe Wrote:  Because the bank is raising the price of that land when the income from it isn't going up proportionally.
Banks don't just make up farm values.  they are based on professional appraisals that use values of land actually SOLD.  That's right, people and companies are actually BUYING farmland and making money off of it.
Like I said before If a person can't make money after getting a $6 million dollar farm for just $4ooK in taxes then he does not deserve to have a farm.
(11-06-2020, 06:52 PM)Brownshoe Wrote: Why should people pay taxes multiple times on their own land?

No one pays estate tax on the land multiple times.  They only pay once when they GET IT FOR FREE.
People who don't have millionaire parents and  have to work and earn $5 million to buy a farm have to pay taxes on the $5 million they earn.  So why shouldn't the kids of millionaires have to pay taxes when they get a $5 million farm FOR FREE?
(11-06-2020, 06:52 PM)Brownshoe Wrote:  Most of these people aren't rich,

They will have to have assets worth over $5 million before they pay any estate tax.  So they are VERY rich.  If they are "cash poor" that is because they choose to be.  Do you think they should get food stamps if they own a $5 million farm but can't make any money?

RE: 2020 Election - Nately120 - 11-06-2020

If your farm goes bankrupt shouldn't you just have worked harder? It's hard keeping up with when people are truly unfortunate and victims of circumstance and when people are just lazy losers looking for a handout. Or as they call it in Canada, a handoot.

That's entirely possible.  On a related note, this is an economic formula that I reckon most voters don't understand, either.

This is part of the rural/urban divide in understanding. There are large agricultural concerns that can weather market variations more easily than family farmers. I think Fred is from a rural area and maybe understands this.

I always hate to see family farms go under. The problem is in part the way they are so exposed to market fluctuations.

Now he has to argue with a Q Anon devotee.

That will be fun to watch.
