Andre Iosivas & Chase Brown article.

I mainly was making the comparison in athletic ability to Iosivas and the production comparison to Irwin, then throwing Burton into the mix, it further pushes Jones down.

I can see the Depth Chart being:

Chase
Higgins
Irwin
Burton/Iosivas
Burton/Iosivas
Jones

At best.

But then Jones is your returner/STer

Speed and agility-wise, Jones and Iosivas are near-identical when comparing their workout metrics.

Iosivas:
40 - 4.43
10split - 1.50
shuttle - 4.12
3cone - 6.85

Jones:
40 - 4.43
10split - 1.54
shuttle - 4.15
3cone - 6.84

Iosivas is bigger and can jump higher/farther than Jones though.

Yep. Good post. A lot of people do not realize a lot of RAS is based on size, not athleticism.

Welll....... Not exactly true. Size is a component. Tee's a big WR but has a RAS of 4.13

I did a double take at Yoshi's 1.50 10 yard split checked its really a 1.52 which is still crazy at 6'3 205. As crazy as 6.85 3cone at that same size...

Ravens rookie WR Devontez Walker said he expected to be picked by Cincy. I found it interesting that the Bengals were interested in the vertical boundary guys like Walker and Jermaine Burton.

Thanks for the update, that is an insane time on the 10 yard split. Still is at 1.52 with his size, Yoshi is an amazing athlete.

I wanted us to draft that guy, too bad the Rats had the same idea, Walker could be really good.

Us wanting boundary WR's makes me think even more that we want to use Ja'Marr in the Slot much more.

I’m sold on these two. Looking forward to seeing them at camp.

I got my metrics off ras.football.
You're saying Iosivas's 10-split is incorrect?

Yeah, He might want to take at least 1 NFL snap before he starts trash talking.

The official combine site has it as 1.52, as well.

Clearly Bengals wasn't all that into Walker. Probably knew Ravens were looking for a wideout and likely wanted Burton. Bengals acted like they were interested in Walker so Ravens would think Burton would fall to them in the 4th where they wanted to select a wideout. Welcome to the game Walker.....

Interesting. I'm surprised ras.football is off then. I thought they pulled those metrics directly from the uploaded Combine results.
I wonder why RAS site would list different. Maybe the 1.50 was an unofficial time and RAS never corrected it, or maybe he ran it slightly faster at Pro Day maybe?
Either way, good catch.
Still fantastic run either way for someone his size.

Tez Walker struggled with drops at the Senior Bowl.  That's probably a big reason they went with Burton.

Easily?

I can see him being WR6 more easily than WR3.

He had no idea how to play slot, which hopefully has surely gotten better, but he likely needs to be able to be trusted at all spots to become WR3.  IMHO

Irwin has Burrow's trust and Burton has an extremely high ceiling in which one big game could plant him firmly at WR3.  As of today, I see Jones and Yoshi battling for WR5 then WR4 passing Irwin.

Living on whor.e island, my perspective is a level above most.

I think people are discounting Charlie Jones's potential just because he didn't bust onto the scene his rookie year as a WR.
Charlie Jones athletically is elite.
He was fantastic at Purdue his senior year, putting up 110 rec for 1361 yards and 12 TDs.
Jones was taken only one round later than Burton.
Both Jones and Burton are about the same long speed and height, but Jones looks to be even more twitchy.

I am not saying this to down Burton. I think Burton is very talented. I am merely pointing out that Jones has a lot of potential too, so don't let his rookie year in which he was primarily used as the PR result in people disregarding him as a contender for WR3.
At least for me, it's a truly open competition for the WR3-4 spots between Iosivas, Irwin, Burton, and Jones.
The Bengals, for the first time in a long time, actually look to have really good WR depth.
I'm excited to see this WR position battle pan out this August.

Yep. Also he has issues with running the right route and running routes crisply. And the hands issue has appeared with him before the Senior Bowl.

Burton scouting says hands and route running are strengths along with acceleration.

Walker went where he was always scouted. Burton without the off field nonsense was a first round pick.

Either way, I hope that he plays and makes a catch when we play the Ravens. Then maybe Vonn Bell can decleat him and knock that chip off his shoulder.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Only because of Burton’s character concerns. Talent-wise he’s more like a 2nd rounder.

We'll see if he really is talent-wise, but most good NFL WRs put up 1000+ yards in at least one season in college.
I'm trying to think of a college WR who never hit that threshold in college that wasn't kept off the field due to injury or off-field problems.
I'm sure it's happened (Tyreek Hill, right?), but it's extremely rare.

My point though is let's not discount Charlie Jones from being a potentially good slot guy just because he didn't emerge in Year 1.
He has talent too.
