As society advances so do our laws. Some of our founding fathers owned slaves, but our current laws reflect our more advanced society.
Damn fine point there. The state was afraid too many cities were evolving in their understand and acceptance of each other so they stepped in to make sure they could keep a minority in its place based on "religion" and hidden as a "safety" issue.
