to the second part, that's a pretty interesting idea. I think that would be a step in the direction of employers not insourcing cheap labor.

Yes I know that the cost of living etc factors into it.
In the Phillippines factory workers make: $2.01 per hour.
The average income per person (in USD) over there is about $1200-$1500 per year. This person in a factory job would be making (assuming 40 hours and 52 weeks) $4180 per year. That's a pretty nice salary for over there considering how cheap the cost of living is.
