Just because policies say that does not mean legal immigrants do not fear it. I do a lot of work with the immigrant community in my area, which is huge, and even immigrants that have been here legally for years are concerned about deportation, no matter what we tell them.

The Tea Party feared Obama was going to implement martial law. They believed that no matter what we told them. We called them morons and let them be.

Every Glenn Beck and Breibart article with a click bait headline that tried to stir these fears and build up credibility of these fears is what originally brought about the term fake news.
