I've watched the video many times, and I suggest you watch it again. At around the 20 second mark, he is looking directly at her and does say something...then he turns to the friend. 

He could have chosen not to follow them.
He could have chosen not to confront them.
He could have chosen not to put his draft stock in jeopardy.

Instead, he chose the Pacman route.
