Parental consent isn't exactly a guarantee of wisdom or compliance by the, let's be honest here, daughter.  When I was in college and 20 years old one of my uncle's weird friends made a short case that it wouldn't be such a big deal if I were to take romantic interest in his 14 year old daughter.  I've had friends who were in the army and they'll tell you when you get back from basic training you'll get women and parents of girls showing a lot of interest in you.

On a slightly more amusing note, I'd never have agreed to marry a 12 year old girl mostly because her parents would probably expect me to take over the burden of paying for her braces.
