They are Libertarians, but they don't waste their money and so have funneled it to Repubs because the Repub party is [somewhat] closer to their ideals than Dems.

I'm aware of the Cato Institute and it's origins, but supporting a candidate that is outwardly and unfairly socially conservative revokes your Libertarian card in my mind.  Perhaps that can make amends.
