Kyle claims that he brought a med kit and came to the protests in case anyone needed medical help and to protect private property. He says he brought the gun for self-defense.

The motivations don't seem consistent with each other. For example, if you wear gloves because you feel you may need to treat someone's wounds and you don't want to infect them, wouldn't you also wear a mask to protect them from infections? And how do you treat people's wounds and simultaneously "defend private property"?

But, hey, he is 17, right. Not the most logical folks around.
