People say they're tough on predators now, but it seems like pretty often there's a story you'll see on the news that says "he only served one year of a ten year conviction, was out on parole, and committed another rape of another minor."

He has not been sentenced yet.  This is what is called an "open plea" because there is no exact length of the sentence.  There will be a complet "sentencing hearing" after which the judge will decide the sentence.

The only agreement for the sentence is that he will get between 5 and 13 years.  And there is no parole on these federal charges.  He may be able to reduce them slightly with institutional "good time" credit, but he will still serve about 90% of the time in a federal prison.

I think he avoided a huge prison sentence because these were teenage girls instead of children. Technically he is not a pedophile.
