Reason Tyler Boyd isn’t a Steeler yet.
Posted by: Housh - 04-04-2024, 10:44 AM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (64)

Saw an unsubstantiated report that said Pittsburg has a 2-year/10M offer in to Boyd that Boyd isn’t signing yet.

Where I saw it is admittedly not credible but that figure makes sense at least as a starting point.

He’s definitely not in 3 years/21M territory and i think he’s also not at 1 year deal status just yet. 2 years seems right but i thought he get closer to 12-14M. If Pittsburg is only offering 10M i don’t see why we wouldn’t match that unless we have completely moved on and trust Charlie Jones.

Boyd fell off a tad last year but still had great hands and routes.

If the asking price is 10M over 2 years i don’t see how that deal screws us. I mean damn cut Nick Scott and that’s 4M right there. Give up on Jackson Carman and boom. That’s your 5M for Boyd right there.

From Boyd’s standpoint no way I’m going to Pittsburg for 5M over Cincinnati for 5M.

  The Starting 5
Posted by: bfine32 - 04-03-2024, 07:13 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (32)

One of our "good problems" is we seem to have a lot of talent/ potential in the D-backfield. I've seen folks discuss this but I've never seen a thread dedicated toward it. The position/players:

SS: BATTLE/BELL
FS: STONE/HILL
CB1: CTB
CB2: TURNER
NK: HILTON/HILL

There's also talk that we need a CB to replace Awuzie.

So who you got as our starting 5 come opening day?

  Things Have Changed

Long gone are the days of Kroger, P&G and Bengals players buying up tickets to give away (and those who got them free still didn’t come) just to get the game televised.

Volson 4th highest compensation by NFL performance-based pay
Posted by: Nepa - 04-01-2024, 04:29 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (44)

Cordell Volson was compensated an extra $905,972 by NFL, making him the 4th highest being compensated by the NFL's performance-based pay distribution. I haven't seen how much Browning will be compensated.

  Bengals praised for RB moves
Posted by: SunsetBengal - 03-31-2024, 07:10 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (31)

Bengals cut ties with Joe Mixon and brought in younger, more efficient Zack Moss. Some are upset as Mixon was a long time Bengal, but I think that they were smart to cut ties a season too early, rather than a season too late.

https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/zack-moss-praise-joe-mixon-trade?fbclid=IwAR3u-Slia_3EmHpoNSbhFKE_ccGY5YfwZphD7YTVpL_as67CgMCdlT9KiYc

Quote:CINCINNATI — The Bengals signed veteran running back Zack Moss to a two-year, $8 million contract earlier this month. They also traded Joe Mixon for a seventh-round pick.

ESPN's Seth Walder praised Cincinnati for revamping their running back room.

"From Cincinnati's perspective, I'm good with their running back changeup," Walder wrote. "They got a younger player (Zack Moss) for cheaper. Moss also ran more efficiently than Mixon in 2023 with 0.7 rush yards over expectation, per NFL Next Gen Stats, compared to Mixon's 0.0."

Moss will work with Chase Brown in the Bengals' backfield. They also re-signed Trayveon Williams and could add another running back in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Are the Bengals in an Offensive Rebuild?
Posted by: Synric - 03-31-2024, 09:56 AM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (25)

This off-season the Bengals have kept their contracts fluid without locking themselves into any long term deals. Outside of the 3 core players (Burrow, Chase, Brown) they don't have a contract that has heavy dead cap. Alex Cappa would carry the largest dead cap of 2.25m if he is cut anytime after June 1st 2024.

Tanner Hudson, Trent Irwin, Treyveon Williams, Cody Ford, and even Mike Gesiki can all be cut right now for less than 1 million dead cap total. None of these guys even have a guaranteed roster spot in 2024. You can add in Trent Brown to that for a total of 3m 2024 dead cap for all 6 players. Drew Sample was a 3 year 10mish deal but its also a 1 year/4.9m with a zero dead cap out before 2025. Zack Moss is a 1.5m 2025 dead cap after this season. Cordell Volson can be cut after June 1st 2024 for 164k dead cap.... and of course Tee Higgins is on the 1 year Franchise Tag.

Long winded way of saying the Bengals are in an important Offensive Rebuild. How the Bengals construct their long term core weapons and OL around Burrow will be a large portion of the prime of his career. I expect the Bengals to be looking closely at the 1st round Offensive Weapons in this draft class like Brock Bowers, Brian Thomas Jr, and AD Mitchell... and of course all the Right Tackles.

Happy Easter TBB.

Joseph Ossai Possible Break Out 2024? Other Bengal Breakout candidates?
Posted by: Luvnit2 - 03-27-2024, 08:02 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (53)

I read somewhere Ossai was hurt a lot of the last 2 years. He showed good pash rushing skills in 2022. Can he be a breakout candidate in 2024? I think he also on the last year of his contract.

Thoughts?

How will team react to new rules
Posted by: pally - 03-26-2024, 12:38 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (39)

There have been a bunch of new rules approved for next season. Some of these will affect how the team is built, coached, or played

1) Emergency QB- can be activated from PS an unlimited number of times but that elevation still counts towards the 2 PS players allowed for each game. Incentive to sign an experienced QB to place on the PS instead of a developmental player?

2) IR-2 players can now be designated for return before final cutdowns...no more tapdancing to save a guy from season-ending IR

3) trade deadline changed to after week 9

4) challenges are now allowed to determine if a QB was down or out of bounds before passing

5) a 3rd challenge is awarded after just 1 successful challenge not 2

6) play clock expiration can be challenged

7) hip drop tackled banned-lots of work for the defensive coaches to do in training camp

8) kick-offs-mirrors the XFL rules. This will add all sorts of strategic opportunities. Lots of work for Simmons and company here too
-The kicking team lines up at the receiving team's 40 and cannot move until the kick is caught or hits the ground (do they need faster guys on kick-off team?)
-The receiving team has a majority of players at their own 35 and also cannot move. The whole idea is to prevent high-speed impacts
A landing zone is set between the end zone and 20-yard line. Any kick landing here must be returned by either of the 2 players in this area. Any kick landing
short of the landing zone is considered out of bounds and results in the ball being placed at the 40.
-kicks into or out of end zone will be placed at the 30.

Nice job to whoever in the FO who put up a fight for the 3rd round comp pick correction.

It wasn't a given.
