Chase not Practicing
(08-15-2024, 11:25 PM)bfine32 Wrote: All that to agree that he never demanded more $ that his original contract provided?

If that's what you read from reading that the guy got $43.3m and a ton of guaranteed money added to the next 4 years than his contract would have normally paid him out over that time, then sure.

Company: "We'll pay you $10/day for 10 days."
-2 days later-
Employee: "Give me $15/day for the next 4 days and when those 4 days are up, we'll re-negotiate again, because I am certainly not going to only get $5/day for the final 4 days."
Someone: "SO SELFLESS! It's not like he came to them demanding more money, he took no extra money!"

Yes, they moved money to reward him for his performance. No money has been added and there's nothing to indicate PM has ever asked fore more.

it is NOTHING to compare to Jamar Chase's petulance.

Hilarious

Yes, NFL owners are well known for just suddenly giving >$10m/yr more (and $200m in guarantees) to people who don't ask for it. They see their players and go "I sure wish I could just force millions of dollars more into their hands despite them not asking for it."

I even said Mahomes handled it way better as he handled business behind closed doors. We've seen that doesn't always work with Mike Brown/the Blackburns, though.

i merely pointed out that PM asked for no more money and the team has approached him both times to move (not add) money to the contract

To compare that to JC holding out with 2 years on his signed contract because he wants a drastic raise is disrespectful to Mahomes.

Well, we don't actually know who asked for what.  It is a negotiation, after all.  Always ask for more than you'll take.

Also, not really the same, as Pat got 10 year, $450 mil extension before KC started TC his 4th year.

The Chase situation sucks, but that's life for an NFL fan.  If you don't have guys doing this every so often, then you don't have elite players.

Actually there are many elite players through the years that did not do this, it also seems the prima-donna WRs are doing this more and more.

I get it Bengal fans try to bash Mahomes. The dude signed the most team friendly deal of any superstar in the NFL. They were disappointed when JB didn't do something similar and merely went with the Jerry Maguire "show me the money".

You guys can compare what JC is doing to the Mahomes situation if you want. Ima agree with the dude who originally brought him into the conversation as a contrast to JC's childish behavior.

I'm not bashing Mahomes at all.  He is the #1 QB in the league until proven otherwise.  And, his original second contract WAS extremely team friendly.  His current restructure is not.

Notice how after Pat lost his Pro Bowl LT and All World WR, plus has his HoF TE grousing about pay, all of a sudden he's not being so "team friendly"?  That's how QB's put pressure on the FO.

As for Chase, playing Devil's advocate, what did Joe Burrow do without him?  Not much, as we were picking #5 the next year.  He shows up and we're in the SB, largely because of a pair of games against Baltimore and KC where he basically put the team on his back and carried them.  And everyone here knows that if Spain doesn't just stand there and watch Donald run by him, we've got a Lombardi in the trophy case because he put an elite CB on his ass and was streaking wide open down the side line.

Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Well, one thing's for sure, all that talking Chase did last year about not being a selfish player and not having to be the highest-paid WR was a bunch of malarky. Not sure if he was lying then, or his agent has gotten in his head now. But if he continues his hold in and comes out in the first game with a bunch of drops, the fans will really give it to him.

It seems to me that when two parties put their signature to a contract, when done of their free will and fully informed, that both parties should honor that contract.

Maybe that's old-fashioned thinking. (And I do see examples nowadays where it's not a stigma to just ignore contracts when one party can gain by doing so. )

Now, what I don't know is if the contact Chase signed requires him to attend practices or not. And I don't know if there was an oral statement by Chase or his agents prior to the signing that they reserved the right to hold out for a better contract if he felt he deserved one. But I doubt either of those cases hold or we would have heard about them.

So, I'm disappointed in Chase, to say the least.

On the other hand, I'm really pleased with Higgins, who didn't have to sign right away and could have been sitting out of practices, but is giving his all. Bengals won't be able to afford him, but I hope he has a great year and earns a great contract elsewhere. He deserves it.

It is old-fashioned, although, I agree but, remember, sports is not reality. Higgins becomes alot more affordable the longer Chase sits out. What I mean is I have no idea if/when Chase comes back but if he does come back and plays like a shell of himself this year, becomes disgruntled, possibly gets injured,/dinged up,etc. then it will be Tee that all of a sudden solidifies himself into the #1 WR spot and maybe it's a guy like Chase that gets left behind.

Imagine if Chase would have practiced during Burrows 1st real training camp...

Schefter making a twat out of himself daily now is wonderful to see. UNO can hold in for a few more days if he like cos the fat little muppet constantly crying about the situation on ESPN with no sources is brilliant and making him look bad at his job.

Notice how the NFL network guys aren’t making a big song and dance about it because they are probably more clued in.

Kind of what I was thinking. Remember when Michael Johnson turned down his contract offer, and the Bengals then offered it to Dunlap. Dunlap stayed and Johnson packed up for Tampa Bay, only to come back 2 years later for less than he would have originally gotten. I could see if Yoshi, Jones and Burton have big years and Higgins balling out, Higgins gets the deal and Chase gets traded. He's going to be one sad puppy watching Burrow to Higgins the rest of his career with Joey Bag-of-Donuts throwing him the ball instead of Joey Burrow.

Agree with you and completely forgot about that MJ/Dunlap scenario.

Shefty's right. This is 100% on Chase. If Chase was going into his last year, then, I'd side with JC; it's not he has 2 years remaining. Mikey already said "The dye is cast". He's not getting a new contract this off-season, nor should he.

He asked, he was told no.

Well, big difference, here. First, Dunlap was a better player than MJ.  Second, Higgins has already turned down at least two off seasons of offers.
