do you think saints fans thought brees was trash when the saints' offense would be top 5, but the awful defense kept them out of the playoffs?
did dolphins fans think marino was trash when the dolphins defense would constantly end their season?
I know burrow isnt in that level, but its pretty much the same thing. Burrow gets none of the blame here. If youre blaming burrow, youre delusional

In all fairness your average football fan has a 0% chance of playing in the NFL but is simultaneously convinced he has more love and dedication for the game than those who spent their entire lives working to make it as NFL players.

True we don't. I assume (maybe wrongly) that it was run on 1st... throw on 2nd (which became a run)... and then run on 3rd to chip some yards off the FG attempt.. but whichever way around it was, the lack of success on the first two runs meant we probably had to run it on 3rd. To me, it's just one of those cases where we 'got behind schedule' on the plays and backed ourselves into the corner.

Totally agree, the run on 3rd was likely as much for alignment as it was for yards.

That said, the 3 runs were not bad calls considering the situation.
Not bad calls, terrible calls.

Joe Burrow would be in MVP conversation if not for the Bengals 1-4 start.
Touchdown passes (12) - 1st
Passer rating (113.6) - 1st
Completion % (72.2) - 2nd
Passing yards (1370) - 3rd
40+ yard passes (5) - t-1st

100%
You are allowed to run the ball with one back , 3 Wr's, spread out .... if Zac was so determined to run it 3 times no matter what than at least make the Ravens vaguely respect the pass option.
You're basically making the Ravens job so much easier in that situation and that is pure bad coaching

Yea, I do understand the situation. You don’t go into a shell when you have a chance to win the game. Settling for a 50+ yard field goal is not playing to win. I knew it would be 3 runs or maybe a little dump pass. It burnt them, as well, it should. Harbaugh went for it on 4th on the Ravens 20 or something yard line, Taylor would never do that.

Well, Tony Romo is the famous case of a bad hold. Which leads me to wonder why the Bengals insist on the punter being the holder. Why not the back QB, someone used to handling the ball who could make a quick decision should something break down and whose very presence keep the defense more honest should the Bengals run a fake.

Palmer was right though.
It's not the Palmer situation. MB didn't want to spend when Palmer was here. The Bengals today are spending right to the cap limit.

And if the starting QB gets hurt and the backup QB is now the starter, who holds then? Pretty much every team has the punter being the holder. The punter "should" be used to handling the ball since it is snapped to him on every punt.

This perfectly sums up why the Bengals are 1-4: Mike Brown lead ineptitude since the early '90s.
Burrow has a 70%+ completion percentage, 12 TDs to only 2 INT, and his highest season QB rating in his career (113+). Yet, here we are at 1-4.
Brown fails again for not building an organization capable of winning and supporting the super star QB.

Not really.
Here is the situation:
We are in FG range. Want to get closer? Sure, but defitniely in range.
The Ravens defense was getting to our oline, Cappa was bad so many times.
A sack or holding call takes us out of FG range.
The Ravens secondary knew our line was getting blown up and jumping routes, see the interception the play before.
As to the play calls, they likely went like this:
We ran on 1st down, like we did all game with no success again, but that is what every team would do.
A pass was called on 2nd down, but Burrow checked out of it, and that was apparently the right call. (The pass play call could have been on 1st down but it doesnt matter.)
We ran on 3rd simply to align the ball where Evan wanted it, not to gain a ton of yards.
Would I have liked to see us take a shot with Chase 1 on 1? Sure, but if we had a sack or holding call the same people complaining over not passing would be even louder for getting knocked out of FG range. The play calls were not bad when it comes to basic football strategy in that scenario. And the play calls did not cause the holder to drop the ball.

Being a smarta$$ will not help you in learning ball. Learn from those of us that actually know the game.

How is attempting a game winning FG not playing to win?
