Forget about Burton for a minute on this film and watch Amarius Mims’ first step. That’s unbelievable.

Before giving up on Yoshi, remember that Houshmandzadeh’s first THREE seasons were quite subpar. I remember we didn’t understand why he wasn’t cut.

So we should just wait 4 years for every day 3 pick to develop into a serviceable player? Those early 00’s teams could be patient with a guy like TJ because they had absolutely no expectations at that point. That changed when they got Palmer.

Why would JB do that? He didnt sub himself in the game.

Jones has a YPR for KRs at 40.0, the best in the league with players who have 5+ KRs.
Jones is only 15th in PR average though at 7.1.
Return Specialist is about all he's been good for in his 1.5 seasons.
"Complete bum" though is a little overboard though. He does have value on ST.
Yeah sure. Is a 3rd round pick on a kickoff returner good value?

He was a 4th rounder. Which is still a little rich for a ST only player.

And I wouldn’t even consider him good. He’s serviceable. But he’s not a game changer

what I miss? Why do we think Burton doesn't know the plays?

Considering our play calling is vanilla - I'm very concerned if Burton doesn't know the plays.

Do you really think the coach goes up to each player and says "get in there"?

Another wasted pick on an older player to begin with.

He literally changed a game one week ago.
Dude was a late 4th rounder and has had a return TD both his years in the NFL

Being good value and being a complete bum are different areas of the spectrum.
Complete bum, IMO, is someone who provides no value at all.
A 4th rounder who is only a return specialist is, IMO, not worth the value of the pick (should be a rotational player on O/D for up to a few years then eventually emerge a starter or significant snaps), but there's still SOME value there.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: 3-5 so far. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

What I would say is more fair is he still has growth to do.
We knew he was raw coming out of college.
He was thrust into a starting role because he either gave the coaches optimism he was ready off what they saw in offseason/TC workouts or he was just the best option they had.
I do agree to give Charlie Jones a chance.
Don't keep that guy on the bench on offense because you need him for friggin punt and kick returns.
Why Charlie Jones doesnt get more run is just weird. He was a fourth round pick compared to Yoshi a 7th rounder.
The coaches obviously see more than us in practice, so gotta kind of trust them here...but Id like to see him get some more reps. Again, it aint like Yoshi is killing it.

Agreed.
I can only think it has to do with his (lack of) size.
He's only 183 lbs and under 6'0".
Heck, John Ross weighs more than he does.
They might find him too small to play outside and worry he'll get blown up inside coming across the middle?
Or maybe he just hasn't grasped the playbook enough.

Burton may have some maturity issues...but his performance on the field was never in question..someone started this rumor he does not know the plays and its not true..does he make some expected rookie mistakes..I would imagine so

Hes either gonna make a couple of 40 yard catches per game or he’s gonna get doubled which will create space for Chase and Tee.
I don’t think there’s been many snaps with all 3 of em on the field actually running routes, another Taylor **** up.
sounds like another Duke Tobin "dukie" pick
I can see taking a chance on a guy like this in later rounds but rd 3?
Sounds like he was not vetted which is what we come to expect with the rinky dink scouting dept and the adopted son running things as pretend GM

So was Auden Tate, Josh Malone, Cody Core, James Wright, Ryan Whalen, Dezmon Briscoe, etc, etc, etc.... That's up there with "Tom Brady was a 6th round pick" in just because it happened once doesn't mean we should ignore that the other hundreds of times it didn't happen as being the more likely outcome.
