A positive - Chase Brown
(12-11-2024, 07:59 PM)TheLeonardLeap Wrote: This sounds like forgetting how good of a pass catcher Gio was the first three years before he tore his ACL. He averaged 9.0 yards per catch and was a great pass protector.

He'd have racked up insane stats if the Bengals were as pass-heavy as we are in the Taylor era. The Bengals already have 335 completions on 490 pass attempts in '24 after having 420 completions on 615 attempts in '23. For comparison in '15 for the entire season they had 334 completions on 505 attempts.

They ran the ball 467 times in '15 and so far this year we've run 283 times.

I'm not knocking Gio at all. I just believe Chase Brown has the upside to be even better.

Goal line and punching it in. He is a small back that goes down pretty easily. His acceleration and speed are by far his best tools where he is
dangerous. Just wish we had good IOL to truly see his talent. I would be using Herbert more on the short yardage plays. He is thicker and has
better vision than CB.

Not just short yardage, even mid-yardage.

With 4-9 yards to go he has 27 rushes for 79 yards (2.9ypc) and just 4 first downs.
(31 for 88 at 2.8ypc and just 4 first downs if you look career)

Being in the top half behind one of the worst run blocking OL’s in the league is pretty good.

Agreed. I’m a fan.

Ps. Anyone see where Mixon is behind a solid Oline?

I don't really know what to take from this but the OL is bad and Chase Brown's vision isn't the best. Not really surprising either way.

Chase Brown is a good player for us and I really like how he improved so much catching the ball out of the backfield this year.

And when you look at the comparison to Mixon's production last year in CIN and this year in HOU...they really have about at least the same performance for way cheaper.

Mixon 2023 - 309 touches for 1410 yards and 12 TDs (4.56 YPT)
Mixon 2024 - 232 touches for 1131 yards and 12 TDs (4.88 YPT)
Brown 2024 - 210 touches for 1037 yards and 9 TDs (4.94 YPT)

While you could argue the OL is slightly different for 2023 Mixon and 2024 Brown plus different OC, it's still very comparable.

It is kinda crazy Brown is already turning 25 in March though, so he may not ever be like a Top 10 RB, but I'd be ok with that. He's still a mid-tier RB, which is fine for this offense.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Where's that guy that used to be our RB, I don't even see him on the list?  Ninja

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Didn't he start out with a 200 yd game even?

Yes, but once that "new car smell" wore off and he faced some actual defenses, he came back to what we saw here for the past few years, yet some fools on here even think that the Bengals should have kept pouring money into him.

Glad they didn't listen to the GMs on here for that call! Lol

Brown has also picked up his pass protection too! When he decleated Roquon Smith a couple of weeks back, I almost jumped out of my seat!

Seems Brown has been fined $5,481 for jumping into the Salvation Army kettle.

If I were Tobin or MB or any Blackburn family member and I saw this, not called... I'd be on the field and on the phone demanding the refs be fined or fired or both. I would run onto the field( or use my scooter in Mike's case): screw the rules or any fine the NFL may want to hand out.  This is incredibly dangerous, and when not called especially against such a great QB as Burrow.  My goodness when I saw that I could not believe it.

Burrow is a player and not a winer but the owner, coach or someone on the Bengals side needs to get up into the refs face and screw the consequences.

Used to love watching Billy Martin when he coached for the Yankees:  he would let the umps know he was present and was watching.  We need some fire from somewhere

Tbf Zac did let the refs have it when this happened. Don’t understand it not being a fine though. According to this it should have cost dude $11k.

And CB with yet another 100+ YFS game, sitting about 1150 yards on the season and 12 total TDs with 3 games to go.
5 of the last 6 games with 100+ YFS, the other game was 95 YFS.

His burst is about as good as it gets. Imagine what he could do with two non-garbage guards blocking for him.
