Bates was playing better than Hubbard but they still went into 2023 blind not knowing what they had in their 1st round safety because they never gave him any snaps.
Mike Brown wants his highest paid players to play to earn what they're making.
Agree though, which is why I kinda don't like the Bengals draft strategy under Taylor.
They basically treat rookie year as a wash and have all these guys spend a year as backup.
I feel we only saw Mims, Jenkins, and Jackson because of injuries to Brown and Rankins.
Bengals need to get better at playing their early draft picks out of the gate to get contributions, even if it means benching the incumbent who makes more $$.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Zac has long liked Dennis Allen so that is a name to keep an eye on.

More and better scouting please. Stop making the coaches scout, and let them concentrate on developing their players.
I honestly don’t know if Tobin needs fired, or if he just needs better information.
Does anyone know Duke actual qualifications? Like did he go to college, did he come up as a scout, was he ever a coach, etc? Not a clue about this guy and if he's even credible at what he does.
The boys are just talkin' ball, babyyyy

I believe it’s the latter; the Bengals need to exploit the growing field of data analytics.

Is your deal?
Coaches move all the time. It’s part of the game, holding your staff accountable. Fresh starts, fresh ideas.
Works great for EVERY OTHER TEAM in the league, and EVERY OTHER SPORT!!!!
Why would the Bengals be different? Why the fear? Is sitting on your hands really a working model?
It's the Bengals F.O. way and hasn't worked in over 3 decades. So I'm all for trying something new

Look back at Tobin's coaching/scouting experience prior to becoming Director of Player Personnel in 1999.
It's basically zilch.
Played two years in Arena Football then joined a NFL FO for a couple years before getting promoted to this.
Feels like he got the job primarily because of who his dad was.
I'm confident Tobin built experience along the way, but it feels like he's dependent on the coaches a lot for input/feedback.
And when the scouting department is so small, you also have to pull in the coaches.
Or maybe they get their scouting info from this board

Mikey Boy will be 90 this year. I think he’s feeling a sense of urgency he should have felt thirty years ago.

its simple..play hard and execute....you and I could coach the offensive and defensive line if we put our minds to it...

Now we just need Mikey boy to step aside. The team needs to get creative with the salary cap for the next few years while Burrow is in his prime. Win a superbowl and then flush it down the toilet. Just win one.

I mentioned in another thread a couple of months back.
A frustrated Bengal fan called Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller on Sirius with the "fire everyone" answer.
Of all the names mentioned, they balked on firing Duke Tobin the most. I was surprised, I assumed they go to Zac, but Tobin was the one they both said would be silly to fire

And they are still bitching today, even though they got what they wanted (some of them, anyways).
BTW, for those saying it, Zac's only getting canned if we have 4-13 year or something, with a completely healthy Burrow: he's going nowhere.

Wasn't Duke's dad a long time executive in the NFL?Maybe Kirwan was protecting him because he was close to Duke's dad?

Didn't work out as HC but he has put some good defensive units on the field.
Who are the best candidates to replace Lou Anarumo as Bengals defensive coordinator?

Perhaps. Both his dad and Uncle spent a lot of time in the NFL.

Exactly.....these fantasies about Zac being fired are just that.....fantasies.
