I click to see what's breaking and read about how we wanted Ragnow about 7 years ago.

Perhaps it's time to roll all of these multidirectional threads that all divulge into chaotic talk about offseason stuff into the {Ultimate Bengals Offseason Extravaganza Thread}?

It get's even better when you go to Pro Football Reference, and they show how many TFL he's had.

I deal with realities..This team ..with Tee Higgins and Trey..went what 9-8?.. But gee golly if those two are not brought back..well..the world is collapsing and we may just go 9-8 next year..I would have traded both, stocked up on draft picks...and guess what..Joe Burrow, CHase , Higgins, Hendrickson...would all be doing fine...making a ton of money..enjoying life etc...Its harder on us fans...But I am impressed with the FOffice.....the hierarchy..they identified the need to make coaching changes defensively and offensive line..they did not hesitate..they have improved our player rotation....I think this team makes the playoffs next year..if Joe stays healthy

That's not reality. Take two of our most elite players and let them walk. We may be lucky to go 9-8. Yes they were on the team that went 9-8 but they are a large part of why people were shocked we had the record we did. Otherwise we would've over achieved.

Top needs, starter at Guard and Impact defensive player at the bare minimum lets just say a DL for this example. Assuming the Bengals are done in FA you only have 6 picks to get that done. That's not even including safety, CB and LB. A very good draft would be regarded as finding two starters. Plus statically speaking the quality of players in the 6th round in a lot of cases aren't even good enough to make the roster so we need to kill this draft. We basically need to find a day 1 starter at guard which we haven't been able to do since 2012. If your not expecting a rookie to start at guard we're basically in the same spot we were last season. And no I don't think are 4th O-line coach since 2018 can magically make the guys we have work were banking on Tobin to figure it out. The other thing is if Ford is a starter and a tackle gets hurt which with Mims history is likely Ford needs to kick out to tackle because we have no other options.

oh really..how many games did Higgins miss and how many games was he pulled out early..NFL is a team sport..and aside from the quarterback position the very good teams win not because of one or two players..or lose because of a couple of players..But not to lose sight of the trees in the forest, would it not be nice if players actually respected the contract they signed and played it out..Have a great day..Time for some spring golf and Pappy

The reality is that the team decided that they were keeping their star and major contributing players and building around them with changes in coaching staff and subtle tweaks to the roster in free agency. The other reality is that the Bengals lost a handful of games by a close margin, some of which might be attributable to poor coaching and injuries, we'll see if the returning injured can truly carry their water. Weather or not the team has done enough to turn the tide in those close games remains to be seen, I guess that we'll all find out this Fall.

For those who said we are virtually the same now as before free agency, I don't agree.
Prior to FA
Needed 2 DT's
Needed a #2 WR (until we tagged Tee and even then many like me thought it was a tag and trade)
Needed multipe DE's
Needed 2 starting guards and also backup OG
Needed a special teams LB since we lost one
Needed a at least 1 TE
Needed to lock yp Chase long term
Now
We siged Hill and Slater so need no DT
Signed Tee to 4 year contract
Signed a LB for special teams
Signed 2 TE's
Locked up Chase long term
Signed 1 backup guard Ford and signed Patrick to compete (probably against rookie guard and Ford)
I understand many want to say well a lot of those guys were on the roster in 2024 which is true.
Rankins - did produced nothing in 2024, so if Slayter does anything, it is a huge upgrade
Hill - was solid so glad he did nt go elsewhere, he was a FA and coud have left if FO did not lock him up
Hubbard did little to nothing in 2024, we have 3 guys competing to relace his production who were on the roster in 2024 and all are young so hopefully improve.
Cappas was won of worst guards in the NFL, if it is Patrick, he is an upgrade
We locked up Tee and Chae long term, if no Tee, we needed a #2 WR to replace him
We signed 2 TE's, one of them seemed to get better with Burrow as the season progressed.
OurDB room was decimated by injury as we lost 2 starting CB's to injury, good news is Newton got valuable experience to be a valuable back up or challenge outside of Hill becomes our slot CB.
As of now, we have lost little from the 2024 roster, the sae can't be said for a lot of teams including Ravens and the Chiefs.
If you look at our off season thus far, we are slightly better while many teams are worse to slightly worse.
We all have wish lists, but if you look at it as of now, we are in pretty decent shape heading into the draft with some cap space to do more (hopefully at guard) and buid on what has been done ths far.
The only way anyone can say we are worse than 2024 team is to ignore all of the sgnings of our own players.
Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

This is clear and blatant rage/shitposting
No way. Who would remind us all of how incredibly stupid and intentionally dishonest every sports writer, podcaster, ex player, and fan is when they discuss their team. Seriously. I need to be reminded at least once a week.

Sweet. Here are some realities for you.
Last year there were 17 defensive ends and outside linebackers that had at least 8 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, 1 pass defensed, 1 forcred fumble and 1 combined tackle(s).
Trey was 1st in sacks.
Trey was 2nd in tackles for loss.
Trey was 10th in total tackles.
Trey was 1st in quarterback hits.
Trey was (T) for 2nd in passes defensed.
Trey was (T) for 3rd in forced fumbles.
Here's one more quick reality. The Bengals made the Super Bowl and back to back AFCCGs with Tee Higgins and Trey on the team, so i'm not sure how your sarcastic '9-8 team' is even remotely relevant.

I agree. Any thread declaring a a breaking news should have a lifespan appropriate to that specific news.

At the same time I wouldn’t be surprised next season if the guard situation is a disaster. Like oh man I’m shocked Lucas Patrick , Volson and Ford weren’t the answers. Shocked that are rookie guard wasn’t good or ready to play because we’re usally so good at drafting that position. Or that adding Burks and Slaton to the worst D in the league didn’t make a huge difference. And I like those additions. Then at the end of the year I’ll see Kevin Zeitlers good PFF grade and want to jump off a bridge.

The reality is none of us know, no crystal ball. Zeitler could have a great year, he could blow out his knee week 1.

Definitely anything can happen it was unfortunate how the Cappa decline played out loved the signing and don’t blame the Bengals. I’d prefer to have signed some more proven vets as insurance so we don’t have to rely so heavily on the draft. I wasn’t expecting the Bengals to sign top FA’s but was expecting some more Zeitler type reasonable one year external deals at positions of need. We only have 6 picks and still have a ton of needs and more likely than not need some rookies to have immediate impacts. Also the Burrow window is about winning Super Bowls so when you look back you have to ask yourself did we do everything we could to win it. I get it we improve the roster marginally and fans are saying now that team that just missed the playoffs is in. But even that is a low bar squeaking into the playoffs and playing road games we should be aiming to improve the roster to compete for the 1 seed.
