Im meh on this pick here in 2nd rd, hopefully they nailed it. I thought this dude was more of a 3rd or 4th rd projection
Expecting Risner or Scherff soon or after tomorrow. We took Fairchild who is a LG from Georgia and Scherff is primarily a RG.
I like Lucas Patrick more than most but he has had problems staying healthy.
We aren't as bleak as we were last season at Guard either and the Defense should be way better under Golden. We will see.

Careful now..... a lot of people on here know better than the coaches about the team needs and the quality of the players they drafted.

FYI, I posted this is the game day thread
49. Bengals: Demetrius Knight Jr., LB, South Carolina
Grade: B+
Knight's game is NFL-ready. Length, stellar range, awesome tackler. Just a very old prospect, which very much limits his ceiling. But this is a win-now team. Some stiffness in his hip flip in coverage. Ball skill flashes when it's thrown in his vicinity. Huge need filled for Cincinnati.
Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

Yeah, we all know about those geniuses who were hired for their football prowess...
Think these guys must of loved that Lou D last year that lost us all those games when our Offense scored 38+...

Agree with the grade. I would of traded back if we had a partner but I bet we didn't have a trade partner or Golden just wanted this guy that bad.
Great length, range and a fantastic tackler (how the **** did anyone compare this guy to Germaine Pratt again)????

I just read a blurb in the Welcome Aboard Fairchild thread, that he has played RG so he wouldn't be lost there.

Quote:He's the MVP of one of the best defenses in the country,. This guy is hard to find.
That's a quote from Al Golden, so I'm going to trust him on this one. I think he could be good for us.

Yeah, he filled in for Ratledge a couple of games I think and played very well. Great pick.

Folks say we should be in "win now" mode, so we take one of the best off-ball LBs in the draft and now they're mad because he's 25 instead of 23.

Knight seems like a decent LB; just seemed like they could have traded back and still gotten him.

There was only four players who were listed at LB on NFL.com taken in the first three rounds. We got the 2nd ranked one.
It was definitely a need. Sounds like we got our guy from the way Al was talking. Our defense definitely needed a spark. Adding a couple dogs to the front seven should get us heading in the right direction.
I wish Pratt and Hendrickson weren't being difficult. It would be nice for these picks to be supplemental to Hendrickson and Pratt instead of possible replacements.

FYI
What we're hearing about Knight: Bengals defensive coordinator Al Golden said he waited for the previous 17 picks to tick off the board so the Bengals could draft Knight. Golden said Knight had a very good pro day at South Carolina and said he was the MVP for one of the best defenses in the country. Cincinnati liked his background and the ability to become an immediate captain at South Carolina. But the most important thing is his versatility. Golden said that Knight's versatility allows him to either be an on- or off-ball linebacker or even a defensive end in certain fronts. Knight had the second-longest wingspan of any available linebacker in this year's draft class (80.5 inches), according to Next Gen Stats.

I don't think Trey is going anywhere. He has a huge wingspan, 2nd best so I hope he can use it wisely in the NFL.

Golden and Taylor like the D Players they got on round 1 and 2. Go to Bengals, com and see Golden and Taylor on these picks. Mostly Golden since Taylor is more offense. Golden says these are 2 top athletes added to Bengals Defense and fit his defensive plans well. So if some on here don't like the 2 D picks early, Golden and Taylor do, and that really is all that matters.
When asked if he can get these rookies to tackle, Golden said he is going to have to get Bengals veterans to tackle also. That this team has a huge room for improvement on tackling by everybody, and it's something he is going to have rookies and veterans working on starting Spring Camps and going forward. If Golden has his way, we are going to see less sloppy tackling by Bengals than last two seasons.

I'm not sure about the pick, but I am fairly confident his age is dramatically overblown as some kind of dealbreaker.

I'm glass half full with Knight. Cerebral, high character, led a very good D at SC. Maybe they paid a slight premium for those qualities. Maybe he wasn't the 49th best pure athlete in the class. Maybe he has already hit his peak physically. But it's not like he's a bad athlete. He has more of a brute force element to his game than Swessinger. He doesn't have the shoulder issue and injury history that Campbell has. When was the last time they had a LB who was any good at stack and shed? I like the pick, I like the idea of pairing a guy like this with a new defensive system. I think that he may be one of those guys who gets the mic in his helmet and hangs onto a job for a long time. A or A-

Knight is fine as a player.
But we had bigger needs. Wilson + Burks is fine, and Pratt is still there.
And it was a round early. DT, G, S, or CB preferred on the board.
D for me. C at best.
But at least he is ready to play now.

Age does not bother me at all.
If we had an extra pick I'd have been fine with him in the 3rd. And there is decent LB depth if he was gone.

Demetrius Knight is 1 of 3 Linebackers in this class you feel good about starting week one.
