Franchise Tag Hendrickson About Same On Money
#1
Bengals pay Hendrickson close to 20 mil, and Franchise Tag in 2026 would be close to 20 mil. It's not like when you tag somebody and his pay and cap hit doubles. So as so much media and fans keep talking why haven't Bengals made a deal with Hendrickson. #1, The Bengals just paid Big Money to both Chase and Higgins on the backs of Big Money to Burrow. That's a Ton of cap money right there. Bengals have been making Big Money Contracts. #2. Burrow, Chase, Higgins are younger than Hendrickson, a lot younger. # 3. Bengals have Hendrickson in 2025. #4. Bengals could have Hendrickson in 2026 for about the same money with franchise tag. About 2 to 3 million more, which is not bad for using franchise tag. As for 2027, Hendrickson will be getting on the old side. They could work a deal or let him leave in 2027.

So the media making this an issue, and I don't see it. Bengals kept Burrow, Chase, Higgins long term which is more than I can say about the other teams in AFC North. As for Hendrickson at DE, he is here 2025, and franchise tag would keep him in 2026 for not a lot more than he already makes. Right there he could be here 2 more seasons, and thus not a major issue.

Trey is already acting unhappy. Probably would be even more unhappy getting tagged even if it is a slight raise.

Franchise tag only works if a contract has run out. Trey is under contract for 2025, thus can't be tagged until 2026. So this thread is about a year early.

I seriously doubt we tag him this year, as he is under contract.

Though, IIRC, we did do it with Tee?

Nevermind, I am remembering wrong.

Sounds good Kevin. I, for one, understand you're talking about tagging him after this season. I'm of the belief that when you sign a contract, you fulfill the contract. How many players that have a down year are pounding the table to lower the contract money for the remaining years? Or," I need an extension with less money because my crappy play dictates it."? Never! You sign it. You fulfill it. And I really don't care about the whole argument of, it's sports. A contract is a contract unless both sides agree to change it and as of now we haven't seen that.

I really like Trey and hope we do sign him for longer but he signed the extension which he thought was good at the time.

We cut Cappa and others on the last year of they're deal as well as forced Moss and Stone to take pay cuts. Anymore the last year only exists for marginal players. The best want paid market value with guarantees and the worst get cut.
