Except in this case, the Bengals ARE trying to change something to be more in line with other "car dealerships," but the customer (Stewart) is upset they are changing the thing because it doesn't benefit that consumer.

The Bengals are still trying to sell the big block V8s that get 11mpg. "Look at this 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix. Ain't she a beaut? She'll get ya to the A&P and back in just 3 tanks of gas!". 

It's going to be so nice to possibly lose a first round pick due to the Bengals wanting to change their rookie contracts. I wonder if they'll keep the verbiage for next year first round pick if we do lose Shemar. This is so dumb on the Bengals part.

It probably is never a good time to start adding this language (maybe if you are picking super late in the 1st), but Shermar was being extra for not signing the practice agreement as all others did. He was doing the most with that decision.

The one guy they draft that needs all the work he can get in before his 1st season and the Bengals pull this stuff. Seems to me the front office is being stubborn on this one. Get the guy signed and get him in the building, don't set him up for failure.

I guess I'm having trouble understanding this. It's easy to point the finger at the FO and go they're screwing it up again. But what are they screwing up. From what I understand, the language is the same as what 20+ other teams have in their contracts concerning guaranteed money that basically says don't be a dumbass and get into trouble otherwise we can withhold the guaranteed money. I do realize that the FO didn't put this in any other contracts before this year but so what. The Raiders had to pay a guy who went to jail for killing someone. If I was the person in charge, I would want assurances as well that I wasn't going to have to give a person millions of dollars if they did something stupid and was unavailable to perform.
My question is why is Stewart fighting so hard against this?

I have to agree. I think Knight not being signed is as important as well. Bengals PR is losing these issues and not extending Trey. But they beat to their own drummer and don't seem to care if these are all bad looks for the FO in the eyes of the fans.

Other teams waivers state they'll get the same contract even if they suffer an injury in training camp while not under contract.
The Bengals specifically have the word "disabling" before injury. What does that mean? Who knows, but the Bengals Lawyer FO wanted a higher threshold before the player gets protected in there for a reason.

Other teams also have that the contract "shall be commensurate with their draft slot".
The Bengals do not.

If you want your draft picks to act like other team's draft picks, then you should treat them like other team do. You don't demand one-sided concessions and lesser-than-standard protections.

Didn't know all that, thanks again TLL. Then the Bengals are definitely to blame here. I was going off if the clause was the same as other
teams it would be Shemar and his agent's fault, but this changes things.

Mini camp is tag football..seems to me people are overeacting..Stewart will sign and be summer training camp..if not..then it warrants discussion

Not a single game has been played..there has not been even one official summer practice and you have already determined the bengals did not do enough during the off season and are doomed..again..they made some major coaching changes..through the draft and FA they focused on the defense and offensive line..and only time will tell.......We switch to beer during our summer golf outings..more refreshing

Guard position will be the likeliest weak link on offense, and the likeliest mode of Burrow getting hurt. Let’s hope cheaping out yet again on guard doesn’t come back to haunt the team. Cody Ford and Lucas Patrick aren’t inspiring at RG. Fairchild is an unknown at LG, albeit with some upside.

Funny..but everytime I watch either KC or Buffalo their quarterbacks are running for their lives a large part of the game..Burrow at times holds on to the ball far too long and other times tries to extend plays that simply are nit going to happen

That would be embarrassing for an NFL team if that scenario came true. However it would have to hurt Shemar in the redraft and future earnings.

the video below seems to explain the issue different than you are unless I am missing something, from the video it says they want change language of default from the year to committed it to the rest of the contract, which would be a first in a Bengals contract but other teams have this types of contracts, im not sure where their source is but they normally have a good sources
