They should have swept the Brewers, instead of winning only 1 game

Now they head to the west coast without the day off travel day. Schedule makers messed that up.

A very frustrating series where we found every way possible to lose games. They should have won at least 2 of those 3 games (and probably should have won all 3).
It's nice that, for the first time in the series, they found a way to win today. Let's hope it builds into something sustainable over the West Coast trip that we're now going to suffer through (I hate baseball that doesn't start until 10pm).

It's a long season, nobody cares about the champions of August of any season that I can recall. I still have faith in Tito and his sheepherder style of managing that he's getting them ready for the later part of the season. As bad and almost comical as it's been, they're still learning. It's not realistic for the entire organization to suddenly know how to play basic fundamentally sound baseball just because Francona was hired. I'm not sure that he knew how little the players knew, but they are figuring it out. They answered eight runs with eight runs. They lost that game vs Atlanta, but they know that they can come back. They recently went toe to toe with Philadelphia, winning the series 2-1 and should have swept them. They should have swept the Brewers and they know it. The amazing part of their streak of not being swept is that this team still hasn't gotten hot, yet. Almost every team has a good two weeks or so where they look almost unbeatable. If and when the Reds get on one of those runs, they'll be in the playoffs. It does happen in the late part of the season. It happened to Arizona a couple of years ago, it happened to the Mets last year. Before the All-Star break(97 games for some stupid reason) the Reds had two 4 game winning streaks and three 5 game winning streaks. Since the All-Star break(28 games-37 to go)only one 4 game winning streak. They're due for a good run of playing solid baseball and maybe the error by the Brewers in the 9th will begin a stretch of some luck finally going their way.

Francona when asked about Abbott after two stellar outings vs two first place teams
"He's been doing it all year. This kid . . . he's what you're looking for. That was the one thing, last night, we were leaving, kind of in a bad mood and I was like, 'Alright. Abbott's gonna pitch.' I'm looking for something to kind of pick your spirts up and that'll do it.

If you look at the schedule this week both teams are off Thursday and the Angels stay home for their next series after the Reds while the Reds go a short distance to Arizona. How is the off day not tomorrow? Makes more sense. ![]()
