The Good, The Bad, and The Fugly; Preseason Game 2
#61
Good
1st team OL and shout out to Fairchild for 2nd great performance (looking like a steal)
Tinsley made me a believer with a couple of very tough catches for TD's (he made the team last night)
Charlie Jones looked good on ST and as 3rd receiver option
Hudson had a drop, but continues to make plays for first downs (Is he trade bait or did he make the team)
Browning made somevery good throws, we have a solid backup QB I hope we never have to use
I thought Anderson played well and had a nice pick, Same for rookie LB Carter who showed some quickness and speed as he baited Hartman
Money Mac is backwith 2 50+ field goals and 4 PAT's

Bad
Front 7 starters last night on defense
Our DC and defensive coaches

On to 2025, let's save the drama for the off season.

If both teams starters were in the whole game that would’ve been a 45-42 final.

Good
Carter
Burrow
Browning
Fairchild
Our “other” WR’s

Bad
Safety’s(well, the starters)
Corners
D-Line
Wilson and Knight

I just don’t think it matters who the DC is, don’t think much can be done with these players. They can’t tackle and take bad angles.

As mentioned on Twitter last night by Ben Baby, you're taught to do this as if you engage and the defender is behind you, can be called for a chop block.

Fred Johnson did it on Burrow's Tenn. run in 2020, it sticks out in my head like a sore thumb:

And I'm not using it as an excuse, it's actually a thing that is instructed, league-wide, as to avoid penalty.

The line actually had a good game, not perfect, but good.

And those saying Rivers looked good, he looked pretty awful once he came in. After that first drive (where they scored), he looked better.

Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Yep. There had to be a reason he did that.

It's interesting, if fans don't like a player, they'll look at 1 or 2 plays. Same if they like a guy. When in reality, you have to look at the play overall.

Not saying Patrick is good. But, he's not totally inept either.

I guess he can only be bothered to get mad and protect his QB against his own teammates. Ninja

I don't think he's the type of runner to make lemonade out of lemons. If the holes are there, he has good change of direction on cutbacks though he lacks top end speed. He could be a good backup with a decent run blocking line. I just wouldn't even expect really good things out of him until the line is up to par run blocking.

He's not nearly on Chase Brown's level.

For the love of God, will someone save this man from himself? Grow some balls before you torpedo the season, ZT.

I may be the only Bengals fan in the world that doesn't have a problem with this. Burrow plays the same, whether it's regular season or preseason. If that helps him get into his groove sooner, i'm all for it.

If you take that away from him, he's probably not the same player. We have to take the bad with the good with Joe. He's willing to get himself wrecked to make a play. He's an actual football player playing the QB position. But yeah ... I cringe sometimes.

I'm still holding out hope that once he starts to gameplan against each opponent specifically, Golden'll be able to mask SOME of the defense's deficiencies, but man, does the starting defense look out of sync and filled with practice squad caliber talent AT BEST. I mean, it's one thing to be vanilla and not call plays because of stuff you saw on film, but it's another to just not have ANYONE seem capable of playing their position at even an average level.

That being said, anyone that calls for Golden's head after only 2 preseason games is a moron whose opinion is not worth the paper it's printed on (no, I don't print out these posts; that'd be weird Mellow)

TBS, all the talk is...vanilla, just do the basics, sound fundamental football.

They're not even able to do that. Dline shedding blocks, LBs filling gaps correctly, safeties up in run support.

None of it.  Sick

BINGO

I don't buy, at all, that some magic elixir will fix this D come the regular season. They, as you say, can't even do A & B right. How the hell they going to do X,Y, and Z in 3 weeks or whatever?

This is two games in a row Knight struggled with his run fits and just looked all around slow to react, timid, and sometimes just lost.

That's what I saw as well. Nothing that gave me a warm fuzzy feeling that he's starter material.

Could have doubled up on the Georgia guards and been set for Burrow’s prime. Gaah

I thought Knight strruggled as well.

At first I thought it was Knight who took a horrible angle on Samual 1st play of game run, but then it looked it was Burks who started the game and in my opinion cost us a lot of yards.

I figured he was gone for the season after this 3 on 1 sack. Pure lunacy, both on his part and on Taylor's part for having him out there.

Hw was basically give the same bad defense we had last year without the best defensive player on the team no real upgrades. Mostly step backs to replace players. And the front office expected a better defense. Looks like last year d defense or worse

It is going to be a year or two before we get a decent defense.

Like trey, wintworth, and bates we let our core playmakers walk other teams suck them up and become better
Our defense took a nose dive when they let bates walk

Woulda, Coulda and Shoulda does us no good. We need to look forward now in my opinion. Let's sign Risner and my hope he is a better RG than Rutledge isin 2025.

It is very easy after any draft to be able to pick a better pick choice.  We have yet to play a real game with our rookies, in time we will see if Bengals picking Kinight was a good or bad draft decision.
