2.5 seconds is the demarcation line for pass block and pass rush win rate. I have a general time based on that for each pass, then the result of the play. Go back and watch Philly and tell me where you disagree with any of this. Keep in mind, we're not comparing Patrick to Fairchild. We're comparing Patrick to any of the other Gs on the roster right now and Cappa from the last couple years.
1st pass - 2.5 seconds - defender nowhere near burrow
2nd pass - <2 seconds - defender wins rep, pressures burrow, pass complete
3rd pass - <2 seconds - defender nowhere near burrow
4th pass - 2.5 seconds - defender nowhere near burrow
5th pass - 2.5 seconds - 3rd read pass in flat, defender 1.5 to 2 yds from burrow on throw
6th pass - >2.5 seconds - double team then peels to help, trips over karras and get flagged
7th pass - 2.5 seconds - initial block handed off to mims, looked late on stunt, no pressure
8th pass - <2 seconds - defender 3 yds from burrow. exact same depth as Fairchild
9th pass - >2.5 seconds - double team, defender nowhere near burrow
10th pass - >2.5 seconds - defender broke free late
11th pass - <2.5 seconds - defender nowhere near burrow
11 passes. 7 times the defender was no threat to burrow. beat quickly 1 time, slow on twist 1 time,
trips 1 time, defender broke free late 1 time. So he was beat once quick and once late.
P.S. omgggggggggggggggggggg. Is this site running amazingly annoyingly slow tonight or is it my laptop?
We are a quick throw team by necessity because the OL is so bad. We cannot run and are bottom in pass block win rate. If Burrow did not get it out quick, he'd get killed.
If the OL play were better, all types of new plays and route trees would open up. Given our talented receivers, it would be a huge boon.

The average release time is 2.7 in the NFL, so not crazy different from 2.5 also, that is Burrow's nature, he is a in the pocket type passer so that limits how long he has also, he prefers not to roll out and he does not like going under center which could help our line if he did with pass blocking. Are we are a great line NO, but his Burrow way out of the norm of release time in the NFL NO.

I have a feeling we'll sign Risner after his visit with Seattle. I think we have the deal ready to go and basically agreed on, but Risner had already told Seattle he'd visit them so he's going to be a man of his word, visit them and then the next day, it'll be announced he's signing with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Just a gut feeling I have, then again, it could be a tumor. What do you say Arnold?

What sort of deal do you think that it takes to get him signed? He played on a 1yr/$3M deal for the Vikings last year. I would think that 2yr/$9M with some moderate guarantees would likely get it done. That, and the pride of knowing that he's blocking for the World famous Joe Burrow, of course.
Dylan Fairchild is the future of the Bengals at LG

I am concerned that the Bengals may have lowballed him and if he gets a realistic offer he'll jump at it while the offer is on the table.
We got lucky with Fant, who I believe was offered more by New Orleans.
I will be very upset if that made us cocky and we cost ourselves the last decent chance to shore up our interior.

I hope that is the deal Sunset right there and what Phil said is not out of the question. I don't think he has a tumor.

Not setting yourself up for disappointment, I get it being a Bengals fan.
If we offered something fair, I think Risner is back here from what he has stated, this is where he wants to be but he has to be a man of his word
as Phil said and visit the teams he said he would. But like I said, I understand the concern. Risner fits just what we need though, he is a good pass
protector and not a good run blocker. This fits our Offense with Burrow, I don't think we would low ball that especially with our injuries and struggles.

This is even more urgently needed now, the Bengals F.O. needs to simply make it happen. The entire franchise plays QB, keep your money safe!!

It's been that way since his second year and we still haven't sold out to protect him, which is so mind-boggling to me.
Not only that, but we haven't even given him an above average line to protect him.

Word has been he has overvalued himself part of reason he has yet to sign, at this point in his career sounds like he just wants the most $$ he can get, does not matter what team.

True, but Burrow works both ends of the standard deviation from the norm.
When things go smoothly, on most plays, he is out even quicker. But when things aren't open on the first/2nd reads, he holds the ball a LONG time trying to make a play. That skews the average upwards. He rarely throws it away early.

I watched both games before i replied and i gave you a very rudimentary definition of his play; good or bad. I tracked every snap. Then i even said that you could argue how he "looked", i.e., possibly getting pushed around or beaten quickly, yet the result of the play was the result of the play. Either he kept his man from making a play or he didn't.
It appears that you can get better information from my ass than you can from Joe Goodberry.
You're welcome.
Goodberry blows. Not sure why some fans take his word as someone in the know..

He is very good analyzing the financial (cap and contracts) end of the NFL. I think that is where his expertise ends in my opinion.
On to 2025, let's save the drama for the off season.

Risner's wife posted that tweet with him carrying his bags and saying Who Dey. I don't think she would have done that if they didn't want to come here.

Goodberry does a great job breaking down film. But what he’s really the best at is the draft and prospects. If only we would have drafted even half the players he’s wanted over the years…but alas.

Yes. I've been off twitter for a while so I don't see his newer stuff, but he is very good at analyzing the data.
His takes on the games overall are pretty good too. Like where there are issues, he says it. A lot of people who cover teams don't mention the negatives. He's pretty spot on with issues.

Me too Brad. We had such a great opportunity this year.
I understand the need for a balanced team. But first protect the franchise and extend his window, then balance both sides of the ball.

IF they are not addressing the o-line in the hopes of balancing the team, they have failed miserably because the defense has very little top end talent outside of Trey.
I think they've just missed on a bunch of draft picks and free agents that they've brought in recently.

The weird thing with me on the Bengals is that instead of just going out and signing 1 quality Guard, they'll bring in like 3 lower cost options and let them compete. Then, guys like Volson get hurt and are out for the year. He could have just been cut and that money went towards an upgrade.
I don't know.
They did it at safety with Nick Scott, then you cut him. Now you have Stone who appears to be mediocre. So he'll likely need replaced at some point.

The fact that they told Stone to take a pay cut this off-season because they know he stinks and he took it is still funny to me.
Like, we know this guy is bad and is overpaid, so we are going to ask him to take a pay cut but not do anything to actually improve the position lol
The boys are just talkin' ball, babyyyy
