Sunset, for some reason I don't see Patrick as much of an upgrade to Volson. Hopefully I'm wrong Funny thing is, I don't see him as much of an upgrade either. The guy is basically a career backup, but if you read the thread when we signed him, so many think that he's "penciled in" at one of the starting spots. RE: Dalton Risner: "Would LOVE to be a Bengal" - Joelist - 04-04-2025 Patrick is a very solid backup. He's someone you can trust to come in and give you solid, competent play. I still expect another veteran Guard plus a high draft pick. Also remember they talked to OL at the combine such as Conerly and Zabel. They clearly expect to go OL early. RE: Dalton Risner: "Would LOVE to be a Bengal" - Boomer Anderson - 04-04-2025 Cut Volson. Sign Risner. The cost difference should be negligible. Go from putrid at LG to decent or average. Problem solved. RE: Dalton Risner: "Would LOVE to be a Bengal" - XsandOs - 04-04-2025 (Yesterday, 07:55 PM)SunsetBengal Wrote: Funny thing is, I don't see him as much of an upgrade either. Ideally, it would be great to get both Scherff and Risner, and focus on defense in this draft. But that may not happen, given the Trey situation. If Trey is traded, then the above scenario could possibly come to fruition. But I suspect we will still draft an OT early. If Trey is extended, we could possibly get one, or none. I like Scherff at RG, and a LG through the draft. In that scenario, a second or third round LG would make sense, even if Tyler Booker is there at 17. Zabel may not be there at 49, but Conerly might. I like Savaiina if we can get him in round three, it would be a steal. It is interesting that getting G value in day 2 is through OT switch. Just a weak G class. I don't like Mbow. Lastly; I have a suspicion Zabel, Conerly and Savaiina would not be selected just to fill a G role...... they could be picked even if we fill both G positions via FA. Orlando Brown may want an extension next year and price himself out of our range. So, an OT in Day 2 would not surprise me. Maybe even in round 1, if we get a first rounder for Trey. Not sure i see anymore additions via free agents the way they've laid these contracts out. Unless they're hand is forced by injury or failure to get one in the draft. But I don't want to see that because I fear we just sit on our hands anyway. Volson was downright terrible last season, solid is a big upgrade to downright terrible lol RE: Dalton Risner: "Would LOVE to be a Bengal" - phil413 - 04-05-2025 (Today, 09:53 AM)Speedy Thomas Wrote: Speedy's fearless prediction: The Bengals will draft a guard early -- first round would not surprise me -- then sign a veteran after the draft. Every time I run a simulator or look at draftteks mock I still feel uneasy about guard in the 1st. Booker isn't BPA and a DL usually is. To often, a safety is BPA and a DE isn't in the 2nd. The only way around this is a trade down and let G/DE/S/DT figure itself out with an extra 3rd. If they go guard that high, they're really banking on their young DL to make a big jump. It's almost like we are just as worried for the recent picks as we are the upcoming ones. According to the guys on Moving the Chains, 1st round will be mostly defense, then Guards and Tackles will go in the 2nd. They don't see too many 1st rounders available unless someone reaches. Since we need a DE, we ought not be reaching. RE: Dalton Risner: "Would LOVE to be a Bengal" - XsandOs - 04-05-2025 (7 hours ago)Nate (formerly eliminate08) Wrote: I do, Lucas Patrick is solid. Volson was downright terrible last season, solid is a big upgrade to downright terrible lol We'll see. In 8 seasons, Patrick has only hit 900 snaps 3 times in 8 seasons, with varied results. He's pretty much the guy you want coming first off of the bench, rather than being a starter. He was drafted by Green Bay, which tells me that he had potential, but they elected to allow him to walk which tells me that they didn't see enough to keep him around. Volson might turn out to be a similar case, but the guy has logged over 1,000 snaps every season. He might could benefit from the coaching change to Peters. RE: Dalton Risner: "Would LOVE to be a Bengal" - Joelist - 04-05-2025 Brown had only 2 games last season where he struggled a bit - both against the Stealers. And he was playing on one leg in both games. OBJr will be fine. The one thing about Volson is he stays healthy. Whether that is a good thing or not I don't know yet. We need an upgrade at both Guard spots and I think Patrick and Risner would be with a rookie learning from them. Patrick has solid PFF grades when he has played and that is much more than I can say for the inconsistent Volson. Yeah, Orlando Brown played very good last season when healthy and toughed it out like a warrior. He isn't the problem on the OL at all. |
