Why are we waiting? It's just screwing everyone over, Ja'Marr would be happy it seems. I don't want a rusty Ja'marr in a game we need him (e.g. G2). He needs to light everyone on fire or we won't win the ring, will there be 1% holdback because he's not paid yet?

This is my thought. It will most likely save us money. But more than anything he's our star skill player and if he wants it now I don't want that weighing on him. Pay Ja'Marr pick up a solid 3rd RB maybe Perine if he's released and maybe an adequate veteran NT and let's go win us a ring.

In conversations with an NFL league source, The Enquirer learned some background details about how the Vikings' decision to wait until this offseason to pay Jefferson impacted the final contract. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, if the Vikings had paid Jefferson what he originally asked for ahead of the 2023 season, they wouldn’t have had to pay what they are paying him now, by a significant amount.
And that is why it makes no sense to wait.

Many wondering why the Benglas are not paying Chase right now could be easily explained with his current contract being 4.8M this season. That is at least 35M less than his projected signing bonus.
Also, teams can only prorate signing bonuses over 5 years. If Chase signs a 4 yr deal after the season he will still have his 5th year plus that contract to spread the money.
Will the total deal be more expensive next season? Of course it will. Do I wish they would lock him up now? Yes. But does our money pinching ownership have a reason not to pay him this year? Yes.

All true. I think we give him his extension before the season though as the FO wants to keep our main dudes happy rightfully so.
We all love Tee, but it was always Ja'Marr we were going to keep with Joey B.

It's amazing how many contract experts we have in this forum. I fault the Bengal's FO for several things, one of those is NOT writing contracts.

I would think an extension would come no later than Tuesday if coming.

It doesnt take a "contract expert" to fault the Benglas for being one of the very few organizations to not guarantee past Year 1 of contracts which has cost an untold number of players we may have re-signed or signed in free agency.

..and yet, we're one of the best teams in the NFL and never in Cap Hell.
One of the things I do blame the Bengals for is never looking for replacements when we lose someone "in-season". But paying folks/ writing contracts....nah

And we are one of only 12 teams to have never won a SB. Been a fan since the 80's, there were so many teams that needed just 1 or 2 more pieces to get us over the hump.
We refused to give Thuney 2 years guaranteed and he went to the Chiefs to win a couple SBs, while Burrow had an oline that not one player is still in the league.
Im very happy with the improvement with Katie, but IMHO it is not close to even middle of the pack in terms of aggressiveness.

Yep. They’ve come a long way from the dark days, but this is one area they’re still woefully behind.

This is true. We want him to be deebo but he runs like Bernard Scott out of the backfield.

So over 1/3 of the league have not won a SB.
Who was the LT in a couple of those KC SB teams? If we weren't so crappy about signing players we should try to get him

Or you know…Shanahan >>> Taylor as a play caller/designer.
And that’s not really a knock on Zac. KS is one of the best in the business.

You can enjoy Mike Brown's history of contracts all you want. I'd bet you are in the minority.

I'd be in the minority of those who live in the past.
You and others can say the Bengals are bad at contract negotiations, I will not. If that puts me in the minority so be it.
We're currently a great team in a fine place cap-wise. Sure we were terrible years ago.

Nah, Chase was bad at it in College; I remember comparing him to the Slim Reaper in such situations.

I still think it gets done before the season.
The FO will know exactly what Chase wants if it wasn’t possible they wouldn’t be negotiating see Tee after he turned down our offer.
Burrow and Chase I’ve never been worried about when it comes to contracts.
It’s the middle of the pack guys next year that concern me, lads like CTB , Hilton, Ossai off the top of my head. These are either big players or players who play significant roles will the FO do what the can to bring them back or will they be too cheap/ over confident about drafting replacements.
The next couple of years will really tell us if we are a flash in the pan team or if we are here to stay and challenging for titles.

I was very clear that things have gotten better with Katie having more control, but we still lack the 2nd year guarantee that most teams do nowadays.
Burrow has also covered a lot for this team. I would say that we have good talent, but we do not have multiple blue chippers, especially on defense. We couldnt keep Bates or Reader, Trey is our only "guy". Other AFCN teams have more than one on defense. When we have multiple stars they are all on their rookie deals except maybe one veteran.
Most of our fans wouldnt know how to act if we had Howie Roseman and an owner with a willingness to spend just a little more.
