Chase not Practicing

Does Jefferson remain the highest paid WR for the entire length of that contract?

Love and Lawrence both signed after Burrow and make the same.

And we're comparing that to 10 mil less for a player better then all of them so I don't get the argument given you asking why KC could sign Jones and Thuney. The Bengals have 5 people on their entire roster making more then that so it's a huge freaking chunk.

Did you answer a question with a question?

JJ gets more per/year and JJ has more guaranteed.

Why didn't CeeDee get more?

The market in 5 or 6 years from now is difficult to know. At this point, the NFL and WR market seems to be in a boom. But then just a few years ago we had a COVID  bust year and until recent years the RB market was hot. I'm sure Chase's agents are pointing out the increase in salary cap last year and the Bengals are pointing out how things could go south and that while Chase can again hold-in if things continue to trend upward, the Bengals can't ask for money back if things don't go well with the market or with Chase's performance. I hope they can find common ground between those two scenarios.

He gets a 3 year extension, becomes the highest paid WR in the game as seems his wish, 2 years down the track when other WR’s go past him again is he within his rights to hold in again? I guess so, he’s not on his rookie deal any more but hey, that’s the system.
Love him as a player and as a Bengal but he’s not winning a lot of fans over with this stuff.

Okay both different and before Chase. But my point isn't that they wouldn't pay him but that he hasn't seen them do it other than with Burrow. I put this squarely on the Bengals. They've had to have known he wanted a new deal probably for this entire offseason. He's a special player and should be treated as such.

I guess it comes down to the difference of 4+mil a year to over 30 mil a year. Seems like he'd have plenty more reasons to continue to play. All the top guys are getting 30 mil a year right now. So Chase wants 32mil a year to be right there with Jefferson. Let's not call him greedy for just asking for 2mil a year more to be at the top.

You got me. The Bengals have never paid anyone named JaMarr the most money anyone at their posisition has ever earned with 2-years remaining on their contract.

You just asked who were the last skill position players they signed before Chase. Did you actually use "before Chase" as a retort to a question you asked about "before Chase"?

Person A: "Who did they do as precedent before Chase; they're not to be trusted to do it?"

Person B: "They did these guys before Chase"

Person A: "Those are different because they were before Chase"

Person B: "........."

And Lawrence making the same says a lot considering how little he’s done so far.

KC was also just one example. Hell, the Browns are paying like 13 guys $10 million or more. Almost twice as many as us. And Watson’s cap hit is WAY higher than Burrow’s

I thought I said in this current era. Which I guess could span along time. But I meant Burrow era. Different in that neither were getting top market money. Not sure if Mixon got top market or not but he did sign at a unique time.

I double checked. I didn't say before Chase I said in this current era. Again I could've been more clear on Burrow era but I guess before would need to be implied. But when I'm asking who has Chase seen get signed two guys that signed before he got here seem irrelevant.

Kind of a small window isn't it? And I thought you asked what precedent...

I assume you mean re-signed:

Joe Burrow
Logan Wilson
Germaine Pratt
Try Hendrickson
Sam Hubbard

Time for honesty:

Do you really think JaMarr's camp wants to sign this year because they're afraid the Bengals won't sign him in the future or is that just something you're coming up with?

For a few games since our first four games include the Patriots, the Commanders, and the Panthers who were literally the 3 worst teams in the NFL last year? Sure. For a season? Nah.

Higgins/Irwin/Iosivas would be one of the worst WR trios in the NFL and Higgins WILL get banged up at some point. He has never played 75% of the team's offensive snaps before in a season, and the last three years he played 64.6%, 68.4%, and 52.7%. That is a lot of snaps where your WR group will be "headlined" by Irwin and Iosivas.

Well I do enjoy speculating what makes people tick and make the decisions that we all do.
I think he wants paid and feels he has done enough and will continue to do enough to deserve more than the 5mil he gets this year. But the players that are his peers on this team Boyd and Higgins. One is gone and the writing is on the wall for the other after this year. I think he wants the top yearly average or very close to it and it appears he wants the badge of signing the highest deal ever. Which he just so happens to have the perfect opportunity get the biggest deal by a wide margin but also doesn't hurt his team anymore than these other top guys.

Also Tua and Goff both got paid after Burrow and make less, and Burrow still got more guaranteed money than Love and Lawrence.

Mahomes was the highest paid QB for 2 straight years after his deal without anyone else getting signed passing him despite Allen, Prescott, and Stafford all getting paid after him. Not counting the obvious Carr/D Jones/Mayfield/G Smith all still getting less years later. Even Kirk Cousins 4 years later only matched the annual amount of Mahomes.

Players don't just automatically leapfrog to the highest paid every time. Plenty of guys sign for less than the #1 paid guy.

But if you were gonna say Chase is the WR equivalent of what QB. Who would you say that he is?

I'd put Chase as a top 4-10 receiver. Based on play he's not better then Lamb, Jefferson, or Hill.

How many of the others have Burrow as QB? We can't say Chases stats would be better if he had a healthy Burrow but ignore these other guys playing with lesser QBs. Unless saying Burrow is over paid and not as good as he is.

I'm a Burrow fan. Certainly not gonna say he's overrated.  But our offense/team success has gone up since Chase has been here. Would we have made the superbowl without Chase?

But I do think the what WR is better than who is very arguable. They all do somethings better than others. For instance do you think Chase let's Eli Apple tackle him at 1yd line in the AFCCG?

Chiefs won the superbowl with Juju as their #1 WR and then a rookie as their #1 WR

It’s a team sport. We have 11 starters on offense and defense.

We almost made the playoffs with Browning as our QB last year.

Everybody is replaceable
