Bengals team was lethargic, uninspired, unmotivated, no energy, on both sides of the ball. The offense was pathetic, and so vanilla, it looked like peewee football. How many passes did Burrow attempt within 5 yards of line of scrimmage, like 20? Defense still can’t tackle, this has been going on for years.

This was not a regular install Wednesday, practice Thursday and walk-through Friday. There have been Team who upset heavy favorites in the first game of the season and then come back to earth. In 2001 we beat NE in the first game, but finished 6-10. They won the SB.

I was at the game. I could be wrong, but it seemed like Cappa got his ass handed to him a lot, especially early. He had some rough ones last year as well. He may be experiencing a decline.
Overall, it's early. It was. bad showing for the offense, but that's become pretty customary around here. It's bleak, but not quite grounds for funeral arrangements. I still despise the lack of effective run game. I'm also perpetually asking what the actual offensive gameplan is.

But with that said, the entire design of the offense is dumb. It's WAY too passive, too many routes are too close to the LOS which lets the defense crowd the box, way out of balance run versus pass and way out of balance shotgun versus under center. It's easy to defense because the scheme does literally nothing to make the defense defend the whole field. Only 16 rushes to 29 passes? No RPO concepts? Roughly 90% shotgun? Burrow is a slow starter. It's a thing. It's happened every year he's been in the league. He"I'll be playing at an MVP level by week 4. The boys are just talkin' ball, babyyyy

You e got to be more prepared than this in the NFL. We can’t at shocked they weren’t ready because the starters played what, one series in the preseason? After Burtow being hurt and showing up absolutely everywhere except working with teammates the last two offseason. You’re getting paid 55 mill a year, at least act like you care. We downgraded talent wise at RB and DT, that showed up. Not surprised. Especially not surprised Mims is hurt, get used to that. I’ve said multiple times and will say it again, we have to get more athletic one the defensive front and linebacker positions. There’s some deeper issues that I’m hoping we can patch for a run this year, but if not then we need to shuffle the deck rebuild on the go. Get big value for a team that can pay Chase, then build a running game to help Burrow because he’s not Allen or Mahones. He needs a lot more help

The offense seems too “smart guy” to me Like “oh if we do 3 hitches then this many guys will be within 10 yards and then the remaining route can be a corner that does x, y, and Z. I think that technical stuff has worked before so we’re afraid to move away from it but at what point is the game about getting a 1 v 1 you like and attacking it? Honestly Chase should be targeted 20 times a game with how poor our team is outside of Burrow and Chase. It’s almost like passing to Jamarr 2x in a row is impossible or some shit. Chase should have way more career 12 reception plus games. I keep waiting for our FO to figure out that if the offense has Irwin getting as many targets as Chase then that means the gameplan was trash. I appreciate the stats about how many different guys Burrow throws to but who gives a damn if you are losing?

This was one that should have been an easy win. I don't really care that Higgins was out, Chase didn't practice, the starting offense hardly played in the preseason, etc. It's the Bengals' responsibility to come prepared to a game, and the offense flat out didn't. Turnovers were a big part but this should have been a multi-TD win. Pats were 4-13 last year and have pretty much no passing offense to speak of.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive. Sorry for Party Rocking!

Our RB and TE rooms are among the bottom 5 in the league. One of the most important position in the game, DT, we are abysmal as well. We have problem with injuries, what does the FO do, draft two of the most injury prone guys in the draft. Just bad roster management.

Maybe...I dunno...the starters should have played more than 1-2 series in the entire preseason to help them get more in sync. I'm sure I am blowing that factor out of proportion to some degree, but man it felt like they were completely out of sync and rusty.

Not horrible but not great either. Volson is typical Volson. The middle of the line is causing issues. As far as lack of running game, I have been telling people the last couple of years it wasn't just Mixon's fault. The O line has done a bad job opening up holes for the running backs. At what point do we hold Pollack and the offensive line responsible? or are we going to keep blaming every running back that comes along as the problem? Joe Mixon didnt have a problem running today behind the Texans offensive line. It wouldnt surprise me if he had a career year.

The OL was fine. Turnovers, and failure to stop the run is why they lost.
I know the receivers weren’t getting open, but Joe was also sped up way too much. Can’t keep treating week 1 like a preseason game. Especially coming back from an injury.
