DC/OL wish list
(Yesterday, 01:35 PM)pally Wrote: Saleh is also a potential one and done DC and that builds zero continuity. Do you want them to hire someone who already has one foot out the door?

I still suspect they are waiting for AL Golden's Notre Dame season to be over

We've had one of the worst defenses for two consecutive seasons and it cost us a playoff spot this year.

I don't give two shits about continuity. I want a god damn Super Bowl.

All this talk about continuity and not going into cap hell need to stop being virtues. The LA rams had the opposite philosophy we did and they have a Super Bowl to show for it, and they never had to pay the piper like anyone said they would. They drafted well and are a competitive team in a competitive division.

Yes, you'll want to draft to support that scheme, but you still need proven guys to demonstrate how it's supposed to work.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that Saleh runs a 3-4...he has consistently run a 4-3 defense and all it takes is a simple google (or watching any of his games)

It's a good thing no one cares what you think. ThumbsUp

I can't imagine the Bengals will try to buy him out of his ND contract.
Everything in this post is my fault.

Hendrickson is perfect for 4-3 DE.
I think he played as OLB in a 3-4 in his first few years in New Orleans, but he wasn't very productive.

I think keep the 4-3 for at least 2025.
That also would give one final year to see if Murphy is worth a damn.

Trey lined up 400 times as the REO and 392 times as the ROLB.

Yep. Don't need someone who is just looking for the next one year stepping stone.

Any D coordinator on this team if they are who we hope they are has the potential to be one and done. You can't let that scare you away.

Saleh is interviewing for the Raiders HC job.

He isn't likely to be looking for a DC position until all of his HC options are exhausted.  He likely won't have word on that until after the playoffs and and all the big assistant candidates have had their interviews.

Ah, thanks Bengal Dude. Maybe with Marv's influence Antonio Pierce is a possibility. I liked how his team responded when he became HC.

Still, Eberflus is my favorite of the bunch still for DC at this point.

My God, how do they think the fans will take another YES man? We need a free thinker at every coaching position so they can properly do
their job to the best of their ability. This is not what I wanted to hear today. Hope we can hire Eberflus or Christian Parker for DC, but if they
are just yes men I guess it won't matter.

Samhain's thread about Pollack wanting Humphrey over Carman made me sad. If position coaches get overruled by dumbasses like Duke or
whoever there isn't much hope for drafting players to fit any scheme on either side of the ball.

What about Ron Rivera? He hasn't had any offerrs yet that I'm aware of and iirc, he ran some pretty decent defenses when he was a coordinator.

Might be worth kicking the tires?

If they go young or inexperienced I hope they bring in a vet play caller as senior assistant.

That's the risk that some teams take in order to land a DC with a good track record. Jim Schwartz and Steve Spagnuolo are two off the top of my head who reasonably wanted/were qualified for HC jobs. The Eagles and Chiefs rolled the dice and wound up making the right call. I don't see the sense in having a craven attitude about a DC being so successful that they get hired by another team. At least they had to have been good for that to happen, right?

So tell us why they have no interested in them other than the old tired narrative, they're cheap?

Why is the onus on me to come up with alternative explanations? I think that’s exactly the reason.

If true that means they clearly OVERPAID on some of those coaches.
