It's a title that some teams give in order to not have to give permission to interview for a parallel coaching position.

Yeah, hard to tell with Drew: maybe it is as Sunset said, a nominal title given to someone so they cannot be poached.

That would make a lot more sense, if that's the case.

Glad they did it. I like what I am hearing about Montgomery and all these Defensive coaches so far. Would be really happy if we could get back 
to being one of the best run stopping Defenses in the league. The one thing that gets on my nerves more than anything on D is not being able to
stop the run.

It is definitely defensive run coordinator.

Dan Hoard interviewed him about it and he says he suggests things to Al Golden who calls the plays.

But the defense does not have a run game. Itcshould be run defense coordinator.

Most DL coaches are defensive run game coordinators. Most DB coaches are defensive pass game coordinators. It's just rare for teams to assign the titles.

Jerry Montgomery is 45 and entering his 20th season coaching DL between college and pros. Spent nine seasons in Green Bay.

Interesting to see #Bengals fill both trench positions with New England cast-offs. Will be familiar conversations between Montgomery and Scott Peters.

I don't know anything about this guy to like or dislike the hire, but 20 years as a Defensive Line coach and never got a sniff to move up a position or two?
