As fast as we signed Golden after Championship game, tells me he has influence in that decision, it actually makes total sense if he said he like Montgomery to be on his staff, lock him up while they had to wait on Golden..

Montgomery coached some good DL's in Green Bay. I like the hire.

They didn't hire Montgomery before Golden pretty sure it was at the same time. Golden wanted Montgomery and I don't blame him.

Good to know. I liked a lot of DL's in Green Bay. Interested in how many players he got to work with. Clay Matthews sure was a beast back in the day.
Really like Kenny Clark their DT. The Smith's Preston and Zaddarius, Gary etc.

Without a doubt and why not make that hire to sweeten the deal in Golden's eyes. It isn't like Jerry doesn't have very solid credentials too. Win/win.

Honestly the packers dline has not been good since Raji dropped off after the Super Bowl win.
The packers run d has been atrocious up until this past season.
Their pass rush comes from their linebackers so their dline has been a weakness for atleast 5 years.
Not sure on this hire.

He asked and GB drafted Karl Brooks, he's got an eye for talent.

1. Their dline has been very good for a long time.
2. B.J. Raji is one of the most overrated DL players of the past 30 years. He is remembered for his stupid dance after his pick-6 in the playoffs and for being drafted way too high. That dline was all Ryan Pickett, Cullen Jenkins and Mike Daniels (in later years), Raji did very little and had only 1 good year out of 6.
3. Zadarius is a hybrid DE/LB. Same with Preston Smith. Gary is now a pure DL after doing both DE and LB, 50/50. Kenny Clark is a NT (and infinitely better than Raji ever was). Karl Brooks is a mini-Geno.
I'm not saying he's a slam dunk hire, but this reads as if you're thinking of the Packers D from literally 15 years ago and not present day.

Wow, you know the Packers pretty well. Good information, seems like Montgomery might just be the guy to work with and elevate some of the current DL personnel on the Bengals as well as be a strong voice towards who the add going forward.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Cullen Jenkins played ages ago.
My point was Raji had one or two good years before he revealed to be a dud. And he was their last decent dline draft pick. Which says something.
Sure, in the past the packers had good dlines.
But in the recent past it’s been their defensive weakness.
Their pass D has been great the last 5-10 years but their run d has been terrible. Their pass rush comes from their linebackers, which have been pretty decent.

Nice post Truck, also have to ask, in a 3-4 where the Linebackers play pretty much on the DL if the DL coach is their main coach or not?
It would seem even the LB coach would be coaching more of the MIKE/Stack backers rather than the pass rushers...
