Well, what I learned this week (I already suspected) is that no NFL team thinks that Tee is worth 2 1st picks. Any team could have made a #1WR offer that the Bengals were not going to match and nobody did.
Tee Higgins price just went up too

Is this bad business also or if we do not negotiate his deal genious move to save 15 million? If Trey is trying to maximize his earnings, he's his own worst enemy. This year is actually a one year extension he signed back in '23 when it was already clear he was underpaid. The time to dig in would have been then. Now, he's in the unfortunate position of trying to get top dollar at 30, which is difficult. I respect the hell out of Trey, but it's a salary cap league. If you have an elite player who will grouse and grumble about his contract, but report to TC and give 110% after settling for less money, 32 out of 32 teams are going to roll with that. ![]() ![]()

Nobody's given up the two 1st round picks to sign away a franchise tag player since 2000. *Fixed it to 2000 (Joey Galloway), thought it was 1998 (Sean Gilbert). ____________________________________________________________

But to spend that draft capital for someone needing a new deal is 2x as hard to move The CBA doesn't mention the two first round pick compensation as being negotiable that I found. I think it is the set compensation should another team sign a non-exclusive tagged player. As for Higgins I don't see that happening. It didn't happen in 2023 when the Ravens put the non-exclusive tag on Lamar Jackson so I seriously doubt it would happen with Tee. If a team wanted to sign a franchise player and negotiate the draft compensation I feel like it would be a tag and trade situation. For example if Higgins signs his franchise tender the Bengals could then trade him to any team for whatever draft picks or player(s) both teams agreed upon. ![]() ![]()

But it is a very steep price i doubt anyone would pay (or if they were worth it allow that player to hit the market to begin with) as 2 1st are even more valuable now with the 5th year option.

It is actually rather rare for a team to use the exclusive tag. Something interesting I ran across while looking stuff up. It looks like this year was the first time since 2006 that two players or less were tagged: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/franchise-tag Trey Smith with Chiefs and Higgins with Bengals. ![]() ![]() |
